Research for colonizing dead planets

Technology revealed in version 1.7

One of the mercenaries has to capability of converting a dead planet into a class 16 colony. So, when are we going to see a research item for this?

I like the idea of having three levels of this technology. First level randomly converts dead planets to class 4 to 9. Second level converts to class 10 to 15 while third level converts to class 16 and above.

Having three levels results in players having to decide when and where to convert planets. Do you rush to convert planets near a hostile player? Do you hold off on converting planets near a shipyard or a good colony? It would also make maps that have a lot of planets but few habitable planets more interesting.

In my opinion this is age of accension tech as it can multiply the amount of available planets and reshape large parts of the map(dead systems)

and as such should only be avalible very late and at large cost.

The mercenary colony ship available in the Galactic Bazaar requires three elerium and three promethion. The devs could make this part of the cost of converting dead planets. As long as these resources aren't returned to the player it would serve as a limit on how many planets can be converted.

I'd happily trade some resources for a L16 planet.

I like that there are abilities only available through the mercenaries.

I am with Peregrine on this. That merc ship in tier 3 is waaay over powered. It is good it is only one. It can be a total war game changer by giving you a planet in your home system that can add production, or give you a boost to your economy.

There should be rare or super costly things that stay rare or super costly.

Super techs to terraform dead planets would be cool    but I think it should be crazy expensive.

One way of doing this would be something like the TerrorStar from GCII           Station that needs like 20 components before it starts working.  These components require strategic resources...

Station can then cannibalize  one dead planet to make one other dead planet habitable.       or Station can cannibalize the star and all planets in the system to provide "star stuff"  that can be used to make dead planet habitable.

super station then moves super slow...   can only build one of them.   if destroyed resources used to build it are lost forever...

or just make the option to canalize the resources directly.   Oh those six nodes of Thilium?  they are all gone..   all used up.   We used it to make Venus really sweat..
