Multi GPU :(

Hi. I am running Windows 10 with an R9 270x video card.

The performance for Ashes of the Singularity is okay.

I decided to put in another card I have. I installed it and the latest drivers. The model is AMD 7570.

Unfortunately it actually made the game run much worse. I am sad. Any hope that this feature will work in the future for cards such as mine?

Thanks!

Sorry to tell you, but i doubt it. While the cards dont have to be the same AFAIK, as with regular SLI/Crossfire, there needs to be some performance parity. IIRC 280x is akin to 7970, that makes 270x 7870? And you paired it with 7570, which is pretty much low-end, so no wonder it made the game run worse.

I am not totally sure how it works with Ashes, but with regular multi-GPU set-ups, the second GPU renders the odd frames. Now imagine your 270x can do it at 30FPS, but 7570 only at 10...

Yeah, that card is an absolute dog, a small fraction of the performance your R9 has.  There are integrated cards faster than that.

Ashes doesn't appear to be using the full capabilities with regards to mGPU, which should allow such things as offloading physics to another card, rendering frames by fractions depending on their relative power, etc.  This is pretty new stuff, and potentially would not work well at all, so I'm not surprised that they haven't implemented all the features.

Multi-GPU will max out at 2X the weakest card.

So if your first card is a lot faster than the other, don't do it.

Thanks for the informative reply.

I guess I was hoping that the old video card would have some use.  When looking at the Video Card performance charts, I find it hard to tell if it is worth it to upgrade.

I find that website missleading personally..! Guru3D is way better! ;) If you just got the 7570, maybe you can return it and get something better!
