Star definition types have been modified to reflect real star ratios regarding size and abundance. Though, not wanting to swamp the map with red dwarfs the abundance has been balanced to favour game play.

Star Types

In order of abundance.

  • Red Dwarf
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • White
  • Red Giant
  • Blue
  • White Dwarf
  • Blue Giant
  • Orange Binary
  • Yellow Binary
  • Blue Binary
  • White Dwarf Binary

Binary Stars

There are some binary star systems but currently GalCiv3 only allows binary stars of the same type. The abundance of binary systems should be greater but until mixed star types are enabled only a few binary systems are available to add some variety to the game play.

Purple Star Types

Purple star types are not available by default but can be added as an additional option. Once added they are as abundant as yellow stars. Custom races that use purple stars are still able to create purple star systems.

To use purple stars

  1. Delete the file Game\StarTypes_StarSystemDefs.xml
  2. Copy Optional\StarTypes_StarSystemDefs_Purple.xml
  3. Paste into the folder Game\

Nice one. Is it compatible to your other mods?

I am using it and I like it because it is more accurate to actual star types. There ain't no purple stars. :)

Now if you will throw in a few quasar, pulsars and brown dwarfs, we'll be all set. :)

I made the abundance of the stars as accurate as possible, within the realms of 'game playability'. Example, reduced the amount of red dwarfs and increased the blue giants.

I did try for planetary nebulae but the game does not like nebula being used as a star system object, yet.

The brown dwarfs sort of worked but the lighting was that of a fully ignited sun and looked a bit weird. I imagine brown dwarf systems to be small and dark.

With pulsars I created even smaller white dwarfs and had empty systems to represent the nova explosion clearing away all in it's path whilst creating the nebula dust to contribute to the next generation of star births. With empty star systems the game creates tiny star systems and places neighbouring star systems right up close to the pulsars,

Still, it was fun creating this mod and for those with fluffy purple unicorn races there is the purple star option available. :-)

My fault, a bit of redundant code from my playing with a neutron star system that wasn't implemented. The problem was I wanted a system that had been blasted by a nova explosion leaving behind an empty system with a lone neutron star. The game didn't recognise empty space around a star and simply placed the neighbouring system right next to the neutron star. I could have placed some asteroids at the outer edge of the system but then it would have looked like a white dwarf system.

I shall remove this code and release an update.
