Does anyone on this forum play the unmodified game anymore?

I am sure that the overall majority of casual players who do not hang out here are happy to download factions and ship designs without the bells and whistles that have come to dominate this forum.

The impression I get is that the vanilla game is unsatisfactory in most ways and when the various mods are used, the game has little resemblance to the game as released.

I hope that future changes to the game reduces the need to mod the game in the ways that we see today.

And, maybe I am totally wrong and there are more people playing the regular game than it seems.

This is a matter of perspective, but I think this is an unfair statement, the support was front loaded into the design of the game. You can edit most of the game, including the AI, using Notepad. Most things don't require you put files in the game directory either, making uninstall and the risk of damaging your installation easy/non existent.

You're completely right, the game is very mod-friendly!

I'm more annoyed because it's mod-sharing unfriendly, not because the mods aren't easy to make - this is the first game I've ever modded for, and it's very straightforward.

Really the game is made to be modded. Look at the awesome work of mods made for GCII and go from there. We will get 'one button' install on mods coming up but will likely be near Xmas.

We have a forum where you can go to and get mods. That is FAR better than some games (looks at Xcom) which is a pita to get mods dl'd and installed.

I play the unmodded game cause I'm hoping Stardock will gradually (but not too slowly) fix the game and implement the changes they have planned as I would like to experience the game as the developers intended. I'll probably start trying mods when the game development is more matured or when I get bored of the unmodded game.

The base game is horrible. I only play modded.

I play a quick small - medium map if the changelog warrants it but my main games are always modded.

I hate the choices that the devs are making so modding is the way out for me.

If GC3 had no modding I wouldn't play it.

Base game. It is still fresh and fun, so i have no need for mods.

My attitude is I'm not even going to look at a mod until Stardock tell us they're done with GalCiv3: No more patches, No more DLC, No more expansions. I know what I'd like GalCiv3 to be and that is most assuredly isn't there yet but I'm putting my money on Stardock doing something about that before I go into "where's a mod that'll make the AI do this, that..." mode.

Disclaimer. The above opinion is in no way influenced by the author's comparitive inability to download and install any aforementioned "mods". Any ineptness taken by any  reader of the above post is not inferred or implied by the author.

The author has always preferred rockers to mods, anyway. Yep, showing my age there...

I'm sorry But I had to takeout the LEP it was seriously screwing my games up! other than that I've been designing ships for the workshop!

I have 6 MODS to do Race/Planet/Stars etc and a few specific Race MODs from the beginning.

For me, the game is much too young to even look at mods yet.  I'm enjoying the game occasionally, but won't take it very seriously for another 6 months or so.  Too much is still in flux!

I'm more than occupied enough with the vanilla incarnation. There's plenty to do and learn there. I see no need to mod anything yet. I will say though I have yet to suffer a massive-scale AI invasion, depite it declaring war on me all the time...

I've just come back to GC3 after some time spent with a playthough of Dragon Age Inquisition (which, by the way, I quit playing before finishing the Jaws of Hakkon DLC because the game was bringing back my carpal tunnel syndrome).  I've started a new game with 1.2 with some custom races (which I don't count as mods) and the Alternative Star Map Background mod (which I do count as a mod).

I intend to try some of the other mods at some point, but for the next few months I'll probably stick with this setup.
