Sudden jump in border

Bug or Feature?

Hello,

not sure if the following is a bug or some game mechanics that I don't understand: As the Yor I colonized a planet within Krynn territory but close to my border. Of course, the colony started to revolt because Krynn influence was 4 times as high as mine. I countered that with rushing culture buildings and building a Cultural star base close to the planet. At first, things went as expected: the percentage of revolting population increased for a few more turns, it leveled at about 61%. Also, the Krynn influence decreased from 4 times to about 2 times and my Cultural starbase slowly pushed back the Krynn border.

Then, from one turn to the next, the Krynn influence on the colony jumped to 6 times and their border radius increased to my side by several tiles. Is this a bug, or is there some game mechanics at work? Given that it took me several turns to advance my border by just a few tiles, I don't know a game mechanics that does this. I reloaded the game to see if this effect was reproducible, but this does not seem to be the case. Any advice? Thanks!

They might have started a cultural project. If the planet was industry heavy or you played at some high level difficulty, it could explain the massive jump. If neither, report bug and upload save game ;)

That just means the AI decided not to do the same thing again. Most likely a culture project is the cause of this.

Are you in the UFP? If you weren't the Krynn where and they got the UFP headquarters it would produce exactly that effect. It's really broken ATM because it doesn't just increase influence income 50%, it increases total accumulated influence 50%.

Is there a Benevolent option, which also gives a massive increase in influence? Krynn could have taken this option.

That too yes.

Thanks for your replies! The Krynn were Malevolent and I was head of UP. My guess is that they built Culture Projects in some of their planets nearby. I don't mind the "tug of war" but the erratic nature is what puzzles me. One turn, my planet was at 70% rebellion, then it dropped to 0% the next turn.
