Custom race photo rendering

Anyone else noticing that quite a few of the factions posted to the workshop are not rendering graphics properly? It is usually the intro photo when you choose to play as a particular faction. Sometimes the leader picture is totally off center and shows nothing at all. The Warhammer races are pretty much all screwed up this way.

This is not a problem if you are just using the factions to fill out a game, but I am kind of picky and I would not be happy posting a faction that did not render graphics properly in all locations.

I can appreciate the problem. It is fairly difficult to get it right when you are using custom photos. It seems the editor was not designed with the casual user in mind. It has taken a lot of trial and error in my experience. It often seems that the goal is more for quantity and not quality. I frequently see the faction descriptions are left undone and even the traits and abilities are not completed. Still, I guess it's okay if all you want are factions to fill up the map.

A few others I have had to unsubscribe due to none of the graphics rendering properly. None of these have ever appeared on this board to my knowledge and I wonder if the problem is the maker or the Steam workshop. I haven't seen any big problems with the ship designs except for some being so zoomed out you can't see them. :)

I hope when 1.1 goes live we will see improvement in the workshop.

BTW Seilore seems to be the most prolific contributor and all of his that I have checked out are complete and well done.

I think it's common when games make it easy to upload custom content to workshop you normally get;

70% of custom content uploaded being half-finnished, hastily done, poorly fleshed out and buggy.

About 20% well polished and interesting.

About 10% real gems that everyone should download.

The thing is the 70% of rough and poorly thought out stuff will probably be actually more like 90% in the first months since good well fleshed out custom content that is properly finnished takes time for people to produce particularly if it's a hobby and they have busy lives.

That said there is already some good stuff out there and I'm sure more good stuff will arrive.

We should all make sure we rate factions and other custom content on workshop, as the ratings help people to go straight to the gold and ignore the dross.

Yeah, as for my own custom factions, I tested and adopted every single one to fit. Besides I rendered them light-weighted to shrink and speed-up the download...on the cost of some high-class graphics.

Only a few factions I downloaded from workshop have finished their designs...in most cases I use them to fill the faction slots. The few that are well designed I try and play myself.

@econundrum1, I agree the rating system could give us a hint on well designed factions...let's say in 3-6 months, when workshop is filled with more content.

As for the faction graphics, the FG's have to be centered to get a nearly acceptable view on them in the diplomatic screen. Additionally it is not that easy to fit FG's and BG's color palette, as testing with game needs time for restart. I'd love to get a frame in the faction designer, where you could see dot's arround the part one could see in diplomat screen. Would make things much easier...
