Approval Relics

I did a quick search for this and did not find anything relating to it, so figured I would ask here.  I noticed that the approval relics affect not only your positive base approval but also your large empire modifier.  So when I take a new planet with a LEP of -4 and have a base +3 to approval, naturally I would have a -1.  Tack on 60% worth of approval relics and instead of the expect .8 approval rate (3 * 1.6 - 4) I instead have  -1.6 (3 * 1.6 - 4 * 1.6).  Is this intended?  If so, it almost seems like the approval relics are not worth it since the LEP is modified and as you grow it gets more affected than the bonus you get to approval.

Known problem: [.97] Proportional bonuses amplify penalties

Thank you :-).  Glad I wasn't the first to notice it.

Personally I don't see it as a bug, it's just the way the game mechanics work. 100% bonus on 0 is still 0. You can't go below 0% approval so it's no big deal if it's multiplying negative morale or not.

aha!!  This must be why the LEP boys are ranting.  The HUGE proportional bonuses you get to help combat LEP (Entertainment Capital, Virtual world, Megaresort) are nullified because of this.  stadiums by themselves (an age of expansion tech FFS) cannot overcome large LEP to get you a decent positive value to then multiply.

I would then consider it a bug.  those % multipliers should only multiple on your positive morale, and at the end, subtract the malus.

Agreed, and I think that is likely the way it is meant to be.  But as it is now, it is impossible to continue to grow too large because of the bonuses applying towards your malus as well.  If that is working as intended, that they apply to both, than they seem to be neutral, if not negative, in large map games while positive or at least neutral, in small maps.   Personally I think the LEP should be a % of the total habitable planets you own in the galaxy, so you get the same LEP in small maps as well as gigantic ones.  Own 3 planets but only 15 total planets to be habitable on the map?  Your LEP might be -2 (20% * 100).  If you own 20 and there are 100 planets, you would get the same -2 LEP.  Lot more planets, but far more to colonize so ALL empires should, theoretically, be larger.
