[Request] Alternate starting planet mb. extreme planets

Hi,

 

currently underway creating a faction set arround C.J.Cherry's Alliance-Union galaxy. Most humanoid races are done, now I'm in front of getting methan-breather factions in. 

Only solution currently is to make them synthetic based, but this won't match it.

 

1. Is there any way to change starting planet toward 'extreme planets' at least, because I can't see a way to mod in complete row of methan based life?

 

2. Is there a way to slightly change colonizing core toward extreme planets, so they try to avoid normal ones?

1. You can by specifying a PlanetTrait tag to the planet within PlanetDefs.xml.

2. Unsure. One way would be to have all normal planets having a "Normal" extreme planet trait and have normal races not have any negative effects with them while having your methane race have them. Or just have some bonus for the methane race on methane planets. Perhaps that would sway the AI.

Thx the notice. I've overlooked it and it seems I may mod in those methane planets into PlanetTraitDefs.xml so I could choose them later in PlanetDefs.xml and probably I'll find a solution for 2nd task either. As for the planned methane-breathers, they mostly keep away from normal planets instead for trade or piracy. It will open a 2nd viewing angle to the universe with quite different options.

Currently I'm wondering if I would better wait for some DLC, which could bring some basic changes in here.

Honestly I'd wait. Thinking this over a bit then you would have to screw the balance of the game quite a lot for a single race. You'd need to enable extreme colonization for all races right away to make this work. As an alternative I'll suggest that you:

  1. Disallow the race from building colony ships. Use a special ability on that.
  2. Give their homeworld a sick class level (Think 30 or even 40)
  3. Get the homeworld some unique art.
  4. Really focus on the trade angle.

Something like that might work right now.

The methan-breather are unfortunately more then 1 race with all sorts of behavior (trade, research, expansion...) so game certainly would benefit from second tree of life. 

In fact I could think about cutting in half the pressure on each race through methan-breathers, as they do not compete arround planets in first place. I do think about a full scale of methan planets for colonization from one side, while ressource development from the other. Certain treaties and alliances seem reliable. 

 

Decission is yet not done, your idea is thinkable though.
