Asteroids & Noob Questions

What are these even for? Are they just purely for hiding ships in?

Answered...

Freighters. Can these be sent between your planets or just between interstellar governments?

Races and Diplomatic chatter, seems to be an awful lot of requests for money from various races, is it possible to get that knocked down some?

CPU Usage. Playing an INSANE Galaxy with 40+ Races, seeing turns lasting a few seconds to a few dozen seconds but only seeing CPU cycles concentrated while executing a turn, not seeing good responsiveness of the interface and seeing the game lag so bad Windows gives the Wait for Program to Respond menu at times. Running the game on 32GB RAM, FX-8350, and 250 GB SSD drive. Should I try installing to my ram drive and running off the ram disk?

Asteroids are places where Durantium can spawn, they are places where you cannot build stations, and they are places which take more than the normal amount of time to traverse.

Although I personally haven't heard it, other have said that the developers have plans to do something more with asteroids in future updates and/or DLCs.

Only to minors or majors. Can't trade among your own planets

LOL, I doubt it, but who knows, they are always working on the AI and it could change at any time. It can probably be changed with a mod but someone else will have to tell you how.

Can't answer the last one.

I did try the RAM disk install and the run, it is marginally faster, so no real benefit to playing directly from RAM, the load times are a bit shorter though however cpu utilization is still wonky.

Other players have reported AMD CPUs being wonky with GC3. Stardock might be addressing this in the future, as they're aware of the issue, but currently don't know what the exact causes are.

Imho GC3 has a serious memory leak.

Usually when I play, I have no issues at all, but sometimes i keep the game running over night.

And thats where the nightmares start to happen. It uses up pretty much all of my RAM when I come back to it.

Moving the view around the map leads to serious stuttering, somtimes freezes. The AutoSave can pretty much kill all processes I have running, one time it did shutdown Youtube running on chrome, it usually always stops the actual video running there.

I regularly get the Windows7 warning that I should close all programs because RAM is so low.

Yes, I have an AMD and yes, I have "only" 8 GB of RAM.

This only happens after playing for several hours OR keeping GC3 open for several hours.

Completely closing the game and loading the save fixes it, but... meh.

So far RAM consumption for me isn't really all that intense. I've been playing about 80-100 turns in on Insane galaxies with as many races as I can and I don't have any real issues with ram consumption but I haven't been trying to run it for more than 4-6 hours either. In terms of wonky usage on the FX the only thing I can say is that it becomes unresponsive once you click turn and it says wait. I am wondering if they are going to make it where the AI does it's thing in the background instead of mandating I go grab a soda or mow my lawn between turns. I have seen where it uses 100% of the CPU all 8 cores at times, which is great, but it does that at the outset, maybe planning the strategies of the AI who knows, and then it only really cooks briefly during the turns. Turns for me last a few seconds, but it is long enough to drum my fingers when I wanna burn a few turns... turn-turn-turn.

Oh yeah, turned off auto save and have quick move on.

I have not had any problems with Immense Galaxies. I have been playing with 56 Races and max Minor races with Auto save set to save each turn and except for the first turn it runs really fast between turns. I've gotten over 200 turns.   Now the first turn took about 3 minutes with all those races.

The initial setup seems to crank about 100% cpu even while in the UI in the first few moments of the game. But the UI remains responsive. It is while hitting the turn button I have issues. I am not sure if this is related to AMD or what. I would test on my intel rig but I only have 4GB or RAM so it is difficult to get the same conditions.

This is not intended and the developers said this will be fixed soon. It might be in the 1.02 patch notes. It's something to do with all the initial AI code hitting the main thread at the beginning of the game.
