Deleting custom factions issue

Can someone explain? I've created several factions...over 30. In a few cases, I found better pics after creating the faction. I "copied," changed, and "deleted" the original. They won't go away. Lol, both versions remain in the menu. When I change a faction, but keep the pic, the original can be deleted. How do I delete a faction where I don't use the original pic anymore? It's very confusing to start a new game because I can't distinguish between the two versions when adding or removing. Thanks anyone who can help.

If you hadn't turned off Steam cloud sync during the beta, before last Thursday, you're probably getting bit by that.  It had been causing problems so for 1.0 Stardock turned it off, but Steam is still doing it, and in another thread they said that Stardock is currently working with Valve to figure out what is going on.

Thank you. If I turn off Steam, obviously I can still play GalCiv3, but will I still get the automatic updates? Is it a simple matter of opening Steam from time to time? I guess what I'm asking is what are the benefits to leaving Steam on as opposed to the issues if I turn it off? Thanks for your help.

It's not turning off Steam entirely, it's just turning off the Steam cloud sync feature, which copies your saved games and other local data files to its cloud.  You used to be able (during beta) to turn it off for GC3 by selecting GC3 in Steam, right clicking, selecting properties, and then someplace there was an option to turn it off.  Now, since 1.0, that doesn't work.  I've seen other people report that you can turn it off globally for all your Steam games, but I'm not sure how to do that.  Unfortunately I'm at work now and can't play around with Steam to figure it out.

Thanks for your help. I guess I'll wait for an update or solution. My computer gave me a message saying Steam was slowing down my system at start up. I'm going to disable it and see what happens.

Found on another thread, here's how to turn off Steam cloud sync entirely:

Thank you so much. Will this effect my updates? Also, do you recommend disabling Steam? Thanks for all your help.

No, it won't affect your updates, and don't disable Steam.  All this will do is to prevent Steam from uploading your local saves, designs, races, etc to the cloud and then restoring them from the cloud if you delete them.  It doesn't affect the game files or updates/patches at all.

Again, thank you.
