Tiny recommendation just before launch - concerning the "morality choices" of your empire. There's a problem with the way it's presented that I noticed while reading Rock, Paper, Shotgun's "Wot I Think" today. The morality choices of benevolent, pragmatic and malevolent when you colonize a new planet - they're meant to let you guide your civilization's general demeanor according to your vision, correct?
Well, I created my own race of the Radchai Empire who takes the stance of submit-or-be-destroyed to every new race they encounter. New races are to be absorbed or destroyed immediately upon meeting, and the destruction is non-stop until every last member of an opposing race is annihilated. Just the way I wanted to play, and seems quite Malevolent to me, right?
Yet, every new planet I came across, when presented with the chance to, for example, conserve the local fauna, or enslave them - the exact effects of my choices were mapped out in front of me, and by chance, EVERY SINGLE TIME, the Benevolent option seemed MUCH MUCH BETTER for my civilization at that time. And every single time, I couldn't bring myself to click the Malevolent option, based on these specific after-effects! Soon I was the most peace-loving, snuggly race in the galaxy and that's unfortunate. I ended up not even reading the fun stories or reactions for each new planet - I just skipped to the +10% research +10% manufacturing options and picked the better of the 3.
Now, this post IS NOT ABOUT saying Benevolent choices are better than Malevolent. Or that Malevolent rewards should be buffed or are ALWAYS worse - the Benevolent choices were simply better for my empire AT THAT TIME.
Instead, I would like the option of NOT KNOWING the numerical +/- percentage outcome BEFORE I make the choice:
Give me the detailed and fun paths to choose from.
Let me pick the one that best reflects my current species, UNBIASED by outcome.
And let me live with the results! In fact, I'd rather not even know what I was missing out on after the choice was made.
Anyone else ever felt this?
Any way to include this option? And I say option, because of course there are many different people with many different ways of playing. But I'd personally rather roleplay they way I created my race, without being weighed down by trying to do what's best, %-wise.
