GC3 beta 5 .80 bugs, other erros and final comments.

Creating a custom race is very limited game produces a .faction file but it cannot be edited if you want to make more changes that game allows.
In GC2 you could easily create your custom race and you could customize it even more by editing the race's file. Of course GC3 is a new game but so far things look more complex to be done. Creating my custom race is better editing FactionDefs.xml and adding my race there rather in-game and it's limitations.

Color options are ehm too colorful. There should be an option to customize all the colors both interface and ships.
Game uses definitions for colors and reads them from pre-defined color sets. For example "AltarianHot" R:80 G:215 B:255. RGB Colors are predefined in game core xml file. Means you cannot create exact the colors you want but choose one of the set or edit the core xml file or create a mod.. but choosing your colors should be easily done in game! That's too basic to be so limited!

Barren worlds are not colonizable it has been noted in forums.

I was offered a Starbase for free from a custom race, game crashed.

Info tips are still non-readable in several cases where they need for example 2 lines space you can see only 1 line space and half text from 2 lines. Example a planet with "Serene" text is half hidden.

Created a custom colony ship spent about 1.5hr saved and... nothing gone.. 8C

Finally game CTD and non playable anymore.
I can't be sure for the reason of the crash but I discovered a starbase where a module was stuck "Interestellar Collectors" and grayed out. Probably it was built but then stuck?
Now if I load the game it just crashes immediately.. going back to a previous save? Nothing tells me it won't happen again.. or even worse start another empire then lose the game because of bugs..

Ok I got a taste of beta GC3 but it's dissapointing investing so much time building ships who dissapear and when your empire has starts to take shape CTD.
I will pass I have tasted all alpha and beta so I'd rather to wait for a finnished product in summer with no missing elements and hopefully with no bugs or at least no CTD.

However I have to not it's more enjoyable than previous versions. Insane map size looks more realistic especially with Loose Clusters. Although despite the fact I have 16GB memory and the game doesn't seem to go beyond 5GB it's a bit slow. Hoping there will be more optimizations on this.

Still curious why asteroids are not mined while other resources like Promethion or Elerium which are non usable at this stage of the game.
And really hate when I have to build old improvements even when I have researched better versions of them, this should be a bug! I cannot believe it was done deliberately!

Also why factories are so ugly? All the same brownish/orange color? Even when you upgrade them they look very much the same. Maybe those can be last moment updates.. hopefully.
And Research screen is full screen which is horrible having to click the first screen with researcher on the lower right corner then traaaaaavel to the far right top corner to select a research option.

I noted that in my Insane map I haven't seen a single black hole. Which was good but even at Rare setting I should see at least one I had searched a large area already.

I hate the Ages, expansion, war, etc. They cannot be in check with game reality. For example it says I'm near the end at age of war but I have only met a single race and relations are peaceful. It prevent's me from researching more important for me colonization research options as extreme colonization. Atmosphere Cleansing is difficult to reach...

The terraforming in GC was never realistic I don't expect it will change but some minor graphic improvements will be better. When I colonize a frozen world after I terraform it it stays a frozen white ball but it could change to something better.

So waiting for May final game?

I couldn't resist and played 2 more games. Haven't finnished the 1st and
the one I was playing untill yesterday I don't think I will be able to finnish either because of the new patch coming out today! Can't wait! :P

Overall the experience so far is good but 2 things that still bug the game slow performance on Insane map and when exiting the game Steam hangs.. means the game did not finnish normally. Everytime.

For performance note I have a i7 2600k and 16GB RAM and for first time I allocated 10GB extra on my SSD for virtual memory because sometimes the game was out of resources even when it was using almost 6GB and there were still free RAM to use.

I expect with the new optimizations in 0.82 patch it will be better from what I've read in patch notes.

So my next report will be based on 0.82
