Star Base and Fleet management suggestion

Firstly, apologies if I am beating a dead horse here, couldn't find anything related to this at a cursory glance.

Something I have hoped for since the original GalCiv would be an ability to "macro" fleet compositions and starbase building and upgrading.  Specifically, give us:

  1. An ability to order a type of starbase at a given hex.  The game would then automagically place optimal constructor orders at optimal shipyards and send the constructors on their merry way.  So basically an upgrade to the current Rally Point mechanic.
  2. An 'Keep Updated' toggle for starbases.  Same as above, but for upgrades.
  3. Fleet blueprints.  An ability to plan, save and modify fleet compositions and then place an order for a saved fleet blueprint at a rally point.
  4. An 'Reinforce' button for fleets which would place orders at shipyards to build ships to, well, reinforce the fleet.
  5. Finally, an Empire Management page for all of the above.  We should be able to prioritize, halt and expedite construction and include and exclude shipyards from the automated process.  Orders placed manually in construction queues should "stick" there regardless of what happens with the automated process.

I love the GalCiv series to bits, but I often find myself choosing smaller map sizes and minimal resources because otherwise the majority of my play time is spent with babysitting hordes of constuctors and construction queues.  I believe that something along the outline above would greatly enhance the flow of the game.

Personally, I wouldn't want or use most of these. Others may differ with me! On large maps, I imagine you'd end up with some major problems.

  1. I like the idea of being able to assign a type of starbase to a given hex, but NOT the auto-build of constructors. Who knows which shipyard will end up producing the constructor? One close or the next available...which could be 100 hexes away.
  2. Would run into trouble same as #1.
  3. This might be kinda nice, but I can do the same just by producing one of each at 3 (or 4, etc) nearby shipyards or one of each at the same shipyard. It'd probably be too much programming for little return.
  4. Same as #1.
  5. This seems like more work than just managing per-shipyard. It could also get very confusing if you have multiple orders going on and something more urgent comes up, causing you to halt mid-order. You'd hafta take a while to figure out what you built and what you didn't.

I actually like the larger/largest maps myself. These suggestions seem like they'd be fine for smaller maps...but then they wouldn't be as useful since you have fewer planets. With many many planets, I'd be happier managing them myself to maximize efficiency and location of build.
