0.72.2 - Planets being named "Thulium"

As I understand it, this is something that would pop up occasionally when building a mining starbase in earlier versions.  But I'm seeing a lot of planets being generated with the name "Thulium" in the new opt-in patch.  In my first game, almost half of the stars I've explored have a Class 0 Dead Planet named Thulium.  I started another game with different settings, removed fog of war, and looked around, saw a lot of Thulium planets.

In every single case, the name "Thulium" replaced what would have been planet number 1.  i.e., I saw a system with 6 planets, Walleye, and the planets were Walleye II, III, IV, V, VI, and Thulium.  No "Walleye I" but "Thulium."  Some stars did generate with all planets correctly named, even when #1 was a class 0.

So far this has been nothing more than a minor curiosity, but I felt it should be noted.

EDIT: I just generated another new system, this time with resources set to None.  No planets named Thulium were generated.

I always thought there needs to be more unique resources tied to more things...

What exactly does Thulium do in the tech tree?

I am not sure whether thulium is something they were planning and decided to abandon and didn't sweep up well or something they are planning and haven't fully implemented.

I also like the idea of more resources

Oh, and thulium is not mentioned in the tech tree

It's been there since beta 3, I haven't seen any Stardock employee comment on it.

I believe it was mentioned in a stream, Thulium is a strategic resource with which they were playing with internally and forgot to remove the code from the public version.

According to a few devstreams, thulium and one other resource whose name escapes me at the moment are (or at least were) planned resources like antimatter, elerium, and durantium that haven't been implemented yet.  Thulium was tied to "dead worlds" while the other, tied to gas giants.  The plan, again according to the devstreams I saw, was for one resourse to help with things like speed and the other things like sensor tech.  Or perhaps one was speed and sensors, and the other something else.  Either way, these weren't guaranteed to make it into the game, but they were at one time planning it. Whether they still are or not, only they can say. ;)

Thulium talks about sensor tech so that would make sense.
