I think it's known that while zooming on a object while clicking it, or anything similar can cause a screen freeze but the mouse is still movable and the game still is working. I have had this happen and its repeatable for me. I've actually memorized the menu layout so I can shut down the game regardless of the screen freeze. :)

While having this happen over and over without fail, I noticed that not only is it for ships that you click on, but all objects such as black holes. Knowing now that I don't have to click on the object for this to happen, and the label for the object in question always becoming visible 1/2 second before the freeze and stays visible regardless if my mouse is over it, leads me to believe that the label appearing is the culprit! I don't know how exactly but I have a hunch its worth looking into, maybe some load order or display sizing gets mixed up while zooming IDK but I hope it helps fix this if it hasn't been fixed internally already. ;)

please tell me if I'm wrong or right when you can!

I can move the mouse (although you can't see the mouse in the photo) and it does not cause a CTD so no file to share. :3

It is frozen in this screen shot, and objects are in between having fully loaded and being icons, like the anomaly in the screen shot. This is similar to my previous screen shot.

The game IS NOT frozen in this screen shot, and it was taken seconds before the one above it. Immediately after zooming in it froze. This is important because if you notice, some objects are shown like the red star, and others like Earth appear as if I am zoomed out and it has not frozen at that point. Since this is the harbinger of my countless screen freezes whether zooming in or out, it must be the problem. I play zoomed out just till I see things turn into icons so that is why it happened to me every 5 or so turns when I eventually adjusted the zoom.

Like I don't know, I thought it was a labeling error at first, if there is such a thing. All I'm saying is its a clue, and has the highest percentage of being the problem since (its the only clue, and) the screen shot shows only some objects rendering properly anyway which is a obvious bug in by itself. :p

I actually invented the saying, "The most obvious problem is typically the least of an issue." :3
