Beginner questions :)

Hi all,

Just signed up for the beta and I'm really enjoying it so far.  I'm a veteran CIV and Moo2 player and although i've owned the older Galciv titles I don't think I gave them the love they deserved :)

So, with that out of the way I've got a few queries in order to grasp the fundamentals of the game.

1) Starbases - if you build a starbase on say... antimatter, outwith the range of one of your colonies, what benefit would it provide (if any).

2) What should you focus on in the beginning of the game?  I tend to focus on buying a few colony ships and emphasizing growth.  This is the CIV V player in me (granary) but, given that I don't understand the population mechanics, I'm not sure if I'm barking up the wrong tree :)

3) Should you specialize planets or generalize planets?  I'm leaning heavily towards specializations (i.e. research world, finance world) but I noticed that you can gain disapproval from a lack of wealth?  Is this an empire disparity (like one planet is annoyed it's not generating as much wealth as the others) or how does it work?

I'm likely going to have a million more questions but i'll end with one more.  Are there any "Polycast style" Galciv 3 broadcasts?  I want to immerse myself in the game and I find the format both fun and informative!

Thanks in advance :)

I havent uad a chance to play the beta yet just the alpha just for a heads up

1) atm minable resources ( antimatter , elerium , etc) allow you to build special weapons modules for your ships granting you bonus range at the cost of damage

however much of the combat has not been implemented yet so its not really noticable. The devs hae said it will have other uses later on as well.

further they dont need to be built on the resource only in range which i believ is 5 hexes

2) this depends on the size of map your playing on a small imo i would probobly rush weapons and planetery invasion

on midsize maps i would focus on growth to get an edge

on large maps i would probobly focus research

3) lower class worlds ~<6 i tend to generalize make them high pop so they can do anything( im not sure how that works with the new approval system)

anything higher than that i would specialize

Im not sure what you mean by polycast broadcasts but there is an archive of dev streams from the alpha and beta you can see them all except for the lost episode

The first episode is not lost. You can still watch it on Stardock's Twitch.tv-profile.

thanks for the reply :). To clarify, if I build a starbase near a  resource then I can use the resource empire wide but it would be preferable to try to position the starbase within range of both a resource and a planet?  Do these resources grant a bonus to say a mining starbase?

and lower class worlds, do you mean just spam farms to bring the pop up and use the base population to build etc?

oh and can anyone explain wealth relating to approval?
