Old Shadermodel on new Graphic cards?

Hy guys,

as I am unable to run the game (after 2 months) I did some more research.

I found a post on the steam forums that this game uses Shader Model 3.0 my graphic card (ATI Radeon 5800 series) supports Shader Model 5.0.

Now I cant find a way to tell if

A: The Radeon is downwards compatible

B: If this game can be run with Shader Model 5.0

Has anyone information about this? Maybe a workaround on how to run the game with a ATI Radeon 5800 series?

My Radeon HD 6700 has Shader Model 5.0 and game runs just fine.

usually video cards and their drivers are BACKWARD compatible, meaning that they support older versions of the features, and I have a ati6850 ,a ati5850 & a ati4850, and all cards run fe AND even WOM without issues for me, but I do set the drivers to high performace settings.

aerouge, what are the rest of your system specs?

I have run fe on xp & win7 32 & 64 bit, cpus range from a core2duo t6400 (2ghz w 4gb ram intel integrated video on a laptop) core2duo e4500 @ 4.5ghz 4gb ram (xp32bit geforce 420) i7 2600k 32gb ram(w7 ult w ati6850) and even a amd x2 6000+ 4gb ram(xp 32 bit geforce 8800gt) the amd was the most sluggish between turns such that even the laptop beat it even though the amd was supposed to be a 3 ghz desktop cpu dual core with ddr2 800 ram.

His specs are in his other thread. I just read it and instead of replying to the old one I'll add this here:

You said you changed your regional settings to English, but did you change your actual "location" to an English speaking country? Or your language for non-Unicode applications to English? I switch between Japanese and English a lot and sometimes a game requires all three to match in order for it to not crash (surprisingly common issue and most devs don't seem to care about fixing it). I notice I didn't see that fix he mentioned in the 1.1 or 1.12 notes so it still may be your issue.

Hi Sanati,

sorry for not answering so long. I considered this thread done after realising that it probabbly wasnt the shaders and just monitored my old thread.

As to answere you question: Yes I did change EVERYTHING. Despite reinstalling as a native english windows (so "Program Files" folder still was called "Programme" (German Install)). Funny thing is the game runs flawless on a machine from a friend of my who has basically the same OS install (because I did it) but a different hardware setup and it runs fine there. So I think the problems are not located in the language settings but somewhere in a strange combination of Hardware and maybe OS settings. Still I cant get it to run.

@harpo99999 & Others trying to help and needing system specs: I´d like to referr to my old thread:

Still everything pretty much unchanged despite some driver updates since then (i.e. newest ATI Drivers)
