Should strong wildland monsters wander outside of their wildland and attack your cities early in the game on normal?

long title, pretty much explains it.  Normal world difficulty, btw.  However, I am either getting consistently worse at this game or each version is getting harder.  Once I learned how to play, I could play competitively against challenging AI and win some times a few beta versions ago.  When .99 came along I couldn't but normal was a bit of a breeze for me.  Now, normal (AI and world) is kicking my ass.

I think if you plop your city too close to the wildlands then yes they should attack your cities early on. If I recall correctly though the AI is not programmed to attack your cities directly, but if they are in the way of travel then your city will get attacked.

i guess i thought that the point of a wildland is that you wouldn't have to fight the monsters in it until you entered it and that's why there is that dark green border, otherwise, what is the point of that border?  they should just make all monsters wander around everywhere.

The point of the green border is to demonstrate a dratically different landscape when you enter the elemental lords domain. I agree that these monsters shouldn't wander too far from their borders, but the borders are not a stop all. Also, when you cross the border you get a cut-scene so that border works like a trigger.

Now elemental lords shouldn't leave that border, but the minions, I see no problem with them wandering out.
