Beta 5 (0.98) Feedback

I just played a short game. I am liking what I see so far. Some feedback:

1) Love the new fonts. They really make a difference. Everything looks and reads nicer.

2) Love the new game options screens (customize opponents, etc.)

3) Tactical battles seem a lot better. Weak enemies actually run away etc. Nice.

4) I dropped my taxes to none and it still said 5% unrest because of taxes on my city. I understand it may be that way because of balancing but it should be called something else not "because of taxes".

5) There is something wrong with diplomacy effects. I met Kraxis. We both had 1 settlements. He had a stronger army and higher score than me (24 vs 10) yet his diplomacy screen said: You are dominating me (+5).  Clearly he had the upper hand so there is a bug there.

6) Monsters attacked and razed my only settlement (I also had an outpost). I still have my sovereign but no way to create a pioneer and I can't resettle for some reason (all fertile tiles disappeared). Isn't the game supposed to end? I suppose I can try to conquer another city but I thought the game ended when you lose all your settlements. If so, there is a bug there.

I'll add more as I play.

Overall, nice job!

You dont lose with no settlements, you can win the game with just a hero. Also in 952 there is a spell called steal city or something that claims to be zero mana if you never settle. Not sure if it is still true.

Ah didn't know about Steal City spell. I guess it makes sense that you don't lose the game with no cities because you start the game with no cities. I shoulda thought of that. So if I were to find some fertile lands (they seemed to disappear), would I have been able to settle on it with my sovereign again?

I don't think so... but you can fight and take a city from an AI possibly.

End of Kobracan's quote

Steal City is a spell you get as Kraxis, and comes from the Betrayers faction trait (I think, either that or Diplomat).  It costs influence, so without a city or outpost, you can't cast it.

Your sovereign gets to found one, and only one, city.  If that city is destroyed, take one from the AI.  Or try to win just from questing (It's possible, though I've never tried it).
