Biggest "oops" moment in GalCiv

I thought it might be fun to have a thread for all those "oops" moments you've had in GalCiv.  (Or am I the only one who's had several?   ).

In a cunning bid to conserve resources and to flaunt my high levels of miniaturisation, I built a tiny hull with the intent of turning it into a freighter.  I loaded it with Support modules and sent it off to a distant alien world with the intent of turning it into a freighter when it got there.

The ship arrived, I turned it into a tiny freighter... and realised that it no longer had enough support to be where it was.  The poor thing was out of range, unable to establish the trade route, and had a long limp home ahead of it.  I facepalmed and in the end just donated the freighter to the race in question.

I have one.

I was upgrading ships when I accidently upgraded 200 frigates into the wrong class thanks to the fact all of them are similar in appearance and name.

Thankfully, I was able to correct that mistake but I do have to quickly raise 200k for the effort.

Perhaps my favorite is from one of the first games I ever played.

I was the Iconians, and I had come out pretty badly in the race for planets and resources, so I decided to make up for it by taking them from my archenemies the Yor. They had no military at all, so I upgraded a spare constructor to a transport, used a couple of stock ships to blow away the unarmed Yor Scouts in orbit, and invaded Iconia.

Unfortunately, for some reason I'm not sure of now, I hadn't realized that a transport needed to be filled with troops first (since I had upgraded the constructor when it was out in the middle of space). As a result, the Grand Army of the Iconians consisted of just the single troop that's automatically onboard any transport.

The results of the invasion were predictable, although the Lone Iconian did a fair amount of damage before going down.

The Yor subsequently militarized fast and crushed my fleets. I was able to conquer them in a second war later on, but only because they had already been brought to their metallic knees... by the Scottlingas (long story). Not a proud day for the Iconian race.

Hmm, I think qrtxian's winning. :)

I have another one:

In the Dark Avatar campaign I had to capture the planet Dithir (I think it's immediately after the one after where you have to plant spies on Dithir).

After bunkering down, barely surviving the Dread Lord's repeated attempts to wipe me from the map I worked my way up the tech tree until I could build a huge Battleship, packed to the brim with Doom Rays.  Oh yeah! :)

So I bought one.  It put me about 2000 billion credits into the red, and the maintenance payments crippled my ability to get back in the black (I'm a bit better at the economics side now), but I had a ship that could smack down any ship the Dread Lords through at me (due to that cheesy tie rule).

I grabbed a Ranged Troop Transport and the Battleship and pointed them at Dithir. At this point I realised that the Battleship o' Doom couldn't actually REACH Dithir for lack of support.  *facepalm*   (Sensing a theme emerging here? :/)

Okay, so Plan A: Build a starbase there to bridge the gap.   Hmm.  Looks like a single starbase won't do it.  Okay, I could build a second one, but the odds are pretty small of ONE Starbase not being nuked by the Dread Lords before I can get there.  But two?  Scratch that plan.

Fortunately, for reasons unbeknownst to me, the Thalan seemed to have THRIVED under the Dread Lord onslaught.  They had a planet that bridged the gap nicely.  Also fortunately, the Thalan were happy to hand it over for the tidy sum of all I could afford plus a little more.  If they hadn't... yeah.

Invading a planet and seeing my transport ship isn't at full capacity.

I use the "launch all ships" at the beginning of turns:  transport ships don't automatically get fully loaded when there is not much more population than required troops (they have to be launched manually).

I built a terror star  when 1st got TA accidently blew up Earth and Mars.

Did a few blunders regarding troop transports not being filled to capacity. Also declared war on Drengin with out checking diplomacy screen in my current game..they were allied with everyone..now all major races are gunning for me.  :D :D :D :D
