4/3/2011 – 3v3 Demigod Cash Tournament

4/3/2011 – 3v3 Demigod Cash Tournament

Update - Registration is now open.  Go here to register:  http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/PC/Demigod/48/3v3-Demigod-Cash-Tourney-2/home

Tournament

For those of you that do not know, we are currently running tournaments every 2 weeks for 2v2 and 3v3 competition.  Some of the tournaments will be for cash prizes.  Others will be just for fun.  See the schedule below and sign up.  I’ll open a new post for each and every tournament.

What is the schedule?

We will have a tourney every 2 weeks – so put it on your calendar and plan accordingly.

  • 2/20/2011 – 2v2 Practice Tourney (Single Elimination)– Noon EST
  • 3/6/2011 – 3v3 Practice Tourney (Single Elimination) – Noon EST
  • 3/20/2011 – 2v2 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – Noon EST
  • 4/3/2011 – 3v3 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – 2 PM EST - 1 PM EST
  • 5/1/2011 – 2v2 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – 2 PM EST

What are the rules?

Each tournament will have varied rules.  They will be announced approximately 1 week before the tourney begins.  Here are the rules for the upcoming practice tournament.

  • The tournament is 3v3 and all are welcome
  • The tournament is double elimination
  • 2 player may choose any DGs they want (no doubles)
  • 1 player must choose either Demon Assassin or Regulus
  • The map is cataract using default settings (AI settings will be on low gold/xp and high HP)
  • When the brackets are created (this happens right at the start of the tourney), the team that is on the top of the bracket will be on the light side and the team below them will be on the dark side
  • NEW RULE:  Going forward, teams will pick their dgs 1 by 1.  The light side must pick 1 dg and ready up.  Then the dark side must pick 1 dg and ready up.  The process continues until both teams have selected their dgs.  You MAY NOT change your demigods after you click ready.
  • For each following game, the team that finished their game in the previous match in the shortest amount of time may choose which side they want
  • In the event that your team is playing in a losers bracket (both teams have a loss and are now playing each other), the team that lost their previous match with the longer running time is on dark
  • All players must use uberfix 1.03 (you can download it here:  http://www.box.net/shared/qf7lhj1zjl)
  • All players MUST register using www.JeeLounge.com – you CANNOT participate if you do not create an account there
  • Replays for all games must be uploaded to the Jee site by someone on the winning team.  This can easily be done when you report your results in on the Jee site.

What is the prize?

  • 1st place – $120 ($40 per person)
  • 2nd place – $45 ($15 per person)

Payouts will be delivered by PayPal.  If you don’t have a PayPal account, get one.  If you can’t get one, then you need to make arrangements with your teammate.  If you can’t do that, then you will not receive a payout for the cash prizes if you win.  If you do win, provide me with your team’s PayPal addresses via pm on these forums and we will get you sorted in short order.  If the needed PayPal email addresses have not been provided in 1 week, the prize money is forfeit and will be added back to community tournament prize pool.  Cash is rendered via PayPal in US dollars.  If you are from another country, the conversion is provided by PayPal.  Any fee charged by PayPal will come directly out of your winnings (so its possible the winners could receive less than the listed payout).

Additional information about the community prize pool:  once the funds run out for the pool, we’ll solicit contributions from the community and see if Stardock is willing to contribute again.

How do I get setup on JeeLounge? (Skip this if you already created an account on the site)

If you haven’t registered on the Jee sites yet, just follow these 3 simple instructions below.  You’ll still need to register for tournaments, etc, but this will get you added to the system.  You only need to register and setup your account 1 time (eg you don’t have to do this ever again)

  1. Go to www.JeeLounge.com and create an account.
  2. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/teamdg/group/home/ and request membership to our Demigod group (called TeamDG).
  3. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/user/favorites/1/games Click on about me.  Click on games.  Then fill in info for demigod and set yourself to active.

How do I form a team on the JeeLounge Site?

  1. Find a teammate.  You can use this thread, pm’s, or whatever you want to track down a partner.  You can even use the Jee site to send pm’s to anyone that has already joined the teamDG group.
  2. Post in THIS thread letting us know that you will be participating and who is on your team.
  3. Once you have found a team, login to the JeeLounge site and click on Network (its on the bar that shows home/about me/network/stats, etc near the top of the page).
  4. Click on create a clan (only 1 person on your team needs to do this)
  5. Call the clan whatever you want and fill in whatever info you want.  Be sure to set membership condition to free.  That will create your clan.
  6. Next, send an invitation to your teammate.  Once they accept your invitation, you will see them in your clan.
  7. Click on create team.  Call the team whatever you want.
  8. After its created, click on edit members and add your teammate to your team and you are done.

How do I register for the tournament?

  1. Click here for the tourney page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/PC/Demigod/48/3v3-Demigod-Cash-Tourney-2/home).  Whoever is the team leader on your team has to do this.
  2. Click on sign up and select your team from the drop down box.  Then click ok.  You are registered.

What is check in?

We use a process called check in for our tournaments.  The purpose of check in is so that we know that teams that registered for the tournament are actually ready to play their games.  We also use the check in process so that only teams indicating that they are present are placed on the brackets.  This makes it much easier to get the tournament started (instead of waiting around and hoping your opponent shows up).  Be aware that even if a team has registered for a tournament, if they do not check in, they cannot participate in the tournament.    The check in period is 45 minutes before the tournament starts.

How do I check in?

  1. Click on the following link to the tournament page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/PC/Demigod/48/3v3-Demigod-Cash-Tourney-2/home)
  2. Click on the check in icon.
  3. Choose your team from the drop down box.
  4. Click ok.

What do I do the day of the tournament?

  1. Check in anytime 45 minutes before the tournament begins (see above)  – remember, if you team doesn’t check in, you can’t play
  2. Once the tournament officially begins (2 PM EST), check out the brackets page to see who your team is playing first (remember, if you are on top in the bracket, your team is on the light side)
  3. Host a game for your opponent to join or join a game they have hosted
  4. Play your game
  5. Report your win and upload a replay of the game
  6. Check the brackets again and see who you are playing next.  If your opponents are still in game, just host a lobby asking them to join and wait for them to wrap up their game.

How do I report my wins?

  1. Go to the tournament page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/PC/Demigod/48/3v3-Demigod-Cash-Tourney-2/home)
  2. Click on the game you just played
  3. Fill in the win/loss results (its pretty self explanatory)
  4. Upload the replay (the replay will be your last game save if you do this immediately after winning)

Disqualifications

Thankfully, we have not had a need to disqualify any teams yet during our tournaments, but here are the ground rules.

  1. Intentionally desyncing a game will result in a forfeit.  If you believe this has occurred, send me a copy of your DemigodLog.txt file.  I’ll request some additional files if needed.  Hopefully we can continue to keep this nonsense out of our tournaments going forward.
  2. Long delays between matches.  The goal of these single elimination tournaments are to have a series of quick games – not to make players wait on you until you are ready or feel like playing.  All players that want to participate are expected to be ready starting at noon EST and until they are either eliminated or win the tournament.  Games should all be started within 30 minutes (eg if game 1 of the tourney has not started after 30 minutes, the team that is not ready will be disqualified.  So, please be considerate of everyone else’s time and be ready to play!

Congrats guys!  Make sure you pm jon with the your paypal accounts.  Remember, you have 1 week to claim the prize or the money goes back into the community pot.

edit - i'll make a proper update to the op about the games and winners soon.

heads up - I'm thinking of making the next tourney worth quite a bit of money.  We MIGHT use up the rest of the funds we have on a first and second place prize.  I'm not 100% decided, but I will let you know very soon.  No idea on rules, etc.  Might be no restrictions on dg selection, might not.  Will update asap.

Required:

When sending me your paypal information provide me with the amount I am supposed to send to you.  Also, for each tourney re-send me your paypay info with the amount (even if i've sent you $ in the past).  This will help cut down on mistakes.  Thanks!

Currently paid:

4nana - $15.00

Renz - $40.00

Zen - $40.00

Orcun - $40.00

Who else is left for team korea?

Mcshane and soccer if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks again for handling the payouts, jon!  Very happy to have 1 less admin function with the tourneys.

(brackets on jeesport not properly updated/bugged?)
End of quote

I'll take a look at this.

We will be using up the remainder of the prize money on this upcoming tourney.  We will still probably only payout to 1st and 2nd place, but I'll take a look and see what we have to consider a small payout for 3rd.  The prize money will be more than the payouts were for this tourney for 1st and 2nd, but it won't be a huge jump as we have about $225 left in the payouts.

The next tourney WILL NOT happen in 2 weeks, however.  It will happen in 3 weeks on 4/24/2011.  This should hopefully give us a little more time to advertise the tourney and hopefully get some more folks involved.  I'm hoping we can draw back everyone that was in this past 3v3 plus some more folks.

Any thoughts on dg selection for the next tourney?

I'm thinking either making it no restrictions or requiring a da/reg per team with the other persona able to pick anyone.

So next one is 2v2 yeah?

The next 1 is 2v2.  And probably the last one with a cash prize unless SD wants to sponsor or the community decides they want to contribute.

It would be nice if Stardock actually sponsored another tourney and put a good amount of money, like 1000$ or something. That would bring quiet a bit of players back. If not i think after the next tourney DG will pretty much die out. If you didn't do so much pacov, it would already be dead.

Well - we'll see how things pan out.  I'll ask Brad about sponsoring another tourney or series of tourneys sometime in the near future.

Stardock did contribute like $500. Which is pretty significant given the amount of players that played it when they did (probably less than 500 individual players playing 3 or more games on a weekly basis).

That said, they are probably rolling in dough from Gamespot. If they wanted to revive the game, they would do MUCH better to invest some of that money into a patch for bug fixes and making the game not so stupid. Honestly, I would prefer if "1.4" was unbalanced as hell as long as the demigod tiers and ability builds and item selections were totally changed because it would be a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME.

Lol that's pretty harsh.  I could see myself playing for quite a while yet if they just ditched the p2p and came up with a quick stable way for the 40 people still playing to connect.  Of course that's crazy and would never happen though.

what it really really needs is to be free, and a little publicity. That's how games always get revived,

well this way it's clearly not working and there are other ways of gaining revenue once a player base is built.

Stardock made their money in retail sales,  its not really the type of game that would have expansions to create more money on that brand name.  The only thing we could possibly see is a revamp of the game with some of the same mechanics in a Demigod 2 completely different codeing and mechanics  similar to the difference between SC and SC II.  It is really unprecedented that a game that has been out as long as DG and has had as few multiplayer population as we have; that a huge resurgence of people will come and make it worthwhile to patch it.

I love DG when it is lag free and balanced but sadly I am one out of 30 dedicated players that will come back to it again and again.

Anyway i think me and Zen are gonna duo this tourney if anyone wants to settup practice games ^_^!  Lol is getting a lil too familiar i want my DG too!

Kalel and I are teaming up.  We'd love some good practice games as well.

Man - I've been slacking lately...

Anyway, the next tournament will not be 2 weeks from today either.  Apparently that is Easter Sunday, so several folks will likely have plans.  The FINAL date for the upcoming 2v2 tourney will be:  5/1/2011.

Creating the new post now.  And FYI - we'll be using uberfix 1.04.  Its in the combined install package now if you want to grab it in advance.
