New office, what do people think?

Well I finished off my last topic by showing my workstation in it's current state:

The problem is it's far more than a workstation now.  I'm now in a room that was formerly a guest room, and some guests... treated the room badly (Still need to repair and paint parts of the walls).

I'm using stuff I've used for years.  My monitors and pcs never die, and if they do, I repair them.  Here is my banking pc:

It's using a pentium d I had since 2006, with a 7600 gt that I actually originally got with it (The 4 gigs of ram were added later).  The pentium d was what I had a main pc until I got a core 2 at the core 2 launch.

I also have a 'printer area', with one printer for the banking pc and one wireless.

I also got a few relaxing lights:

The fish thing rotates, it's actually pretty nice.

This is to the right on my workstation:

I um... use the extra keyboard mouse racks to hold cds and stuff.  To the right of that is a humidifier and under it a directv dvr.

Here are the file holders:

It's not nearly as dirty as it looks, a few items on the floor that needs to be cleaned up and I have packing supplies on top of the two left ones, trying to figure out where to put them...  The monitor is also for my main gaming server.  It's my first lcd, I got it many years ago.

But my main gaming server I didn't.  It's a acer aspire revo I got recently:

It's sitting on a desk with what will be the second most used gaming server (An athlon 3200+ that I got in 2002), and a 17" lcd I got from ebay recently.  I still am awaiting the final desk, which will go to the left of the one shown.

I was gonna wait to show the final gaming server, but I'm having issues installing ubuntu, so I will go ahead.  It's an athlon 1800+ that I got in 2001.  While the other two will be tf2 servers, this will be a cs 1.6 server.

The chair is a POS I got from staples with the desk for $29.99 (The desk is $69.99).  One of the best reviews said "It's a chair. I can sit on it."  LOL!  I don't care, won't be using the final gaming server much.

The monitor is a 15" lcd that I got from ebay for $20.

So......  What do you guys think?  And yes, the room needs more cleaning.

How many carbon credits should you be required to purchase.

I think you probably waste more time just going round and round, than you can possibly spend on anything useful.

making ASSumptions never help anybody you know

What have you done that's been useful?

The office took me about 2 days to move in.  11 hours each day.  I sleep 6 hours a day and say up 18.

If you wonder how I can do that, tonight I broke my record:  Leg benched 1350 pounds at the gym.

Wow, good for you. Was that 10 reps of 135 pounds (really easy, by the way), or all at once?

So, why do you make the ASSumption that anyone really cares about your mishmash of monitors and boxes? It's not really that cool, as much as it is borderline psychotic.

And if you got more sleep you might even spell better and make better sense.

Tell me, how does your leg benching prowess relate to your sleep habits? Or, was your benching done in a dream?

It was 6 sets each of 10 reps.  First two at 1170, 3rd and 4th at 1260, and last two at 1350.  You wouldn't be trolling if you met me, you would be cowering in fear.

Although I seriously doubt you bring your sharp mouth anywhere beyond the computer you hide behind.

And speaking of trolling, I've reported you to the mods.  It doesn't matter what you think, the forums are free for people to post, not so much for trolls to troll.

Lol, dude! You have to stop taking those spills! you know they tend to make one nervous and irritable, don't you?

Anyway, grats for your Push ups, reps, and all.. whatever make you happy... And glad you enjoy your new room, but I guess you understand nobody really cares... No hard feeling here, really , I just hope you are aware of it and that your display as little to do posted on an internet forum, except the ones of Best Buys, Ikea... and that's a maybe....

Anyhow, have a good day! and chill out, you need it.

Regards

Jumping in on a personal thread just to give such an opinion is quite trollish. If you do not care for his office (perfectly understandable) just ignore.

Now, if you had brought some constructive criticism, I wouldn't say that!

But as it stands...

Words can be icy but the person can be calm.  Moosetek13 is a fly on the wall, annoying, but would I really need to make a large effort to squash him?  I think not.

It amazes me that every single post in this thread (except for two) are nothing but diatribe and hyperbole.

So you don't care about this dude's home office? Good for you. Is it worth making a catty comment? I don't think so.

And what's the point in even responding to the haters, OP? Having a "if you met me in real life, I'd kick your ass" argument is hardly a mature thing to do on the internet. :p

As I said though, Moosetek is a fly.  Annoying enough to swat at if he annoys me, but not worth it to actually do anything about.

DarkKnight.... on a personal note I'd try to simplify things and combine the functions of the various computers or assess what kind of computer would do that and since you have the tech nack, build it... and donate or sell what's superfluous.

The power and data cables need isolation from each other and could be done with simple pvc pipes.... Lifehacker has a plethora of that stuff on it with "How to do" tutorials.

Please don't view anything as a personal attack... only trying to help.

My opinion on it as a whole is directly dependant on what you actually do for a living (videographers need a lot more screens than programmers for instance), but in general... ever heard of SSH? or VNC at least? far cheaper than eBay's monitor section, man, and you'll save a few bucks on furniture while you're at it.

And this is a very personal thing, but I think your desktops would look a fair bit less cluttered if you stuck the speakers *behind* the monitors rather than directly in front of it. Easier to deal with the inevitable cable mess that follows, too.

Most 110v household circuits have a maximum of 20amp circuit breaker protection but most have a 15amp breaker. If all the plug ins in your office are on the same breaker, be ready for voltage drops and/or power outages. A load test with everything running would be well advised.

You may need to do a little power management.

It all looks like a disjointed and untidy mess.  None of it appears ergonomic...or sensible.  [I'm speaking here as an Architect with 38 years experience].

Ditch all the desks....get one decent big one, preferably with some method to handle/control cable confusion/tangles....;)

Meanwhile....let's ALL remember that personal attacks are not acceptable. [and I'm speaking HERE as an Admin with 10 years experience]....;)
