Can't get external replays to work

The advice in the Demigod Replay Visual Walkthrough is very clear, but when I copy replays that were downloaded from sites such as gamereplays.org, the game does not show them on the list of replays available to run. I've tried copying them to the profile directory and also to the replays directory, neither works. I wonder if replays created by previous versions of the game are no longer recognized by the current version of the game. Advice, please?
