Question on Ascension Victory flavor

So, if in TOA, Ascension Victory is conceived of as the same kind of transcendence event as Technology Victory was in DL and DA, what is Technology Victory now flavored as? The same thing achieved by a different means (technological research instead of Precursor crystals)? Or is Technology Victory now conceived of as something else?

It has no real relevance to the game; I'm just curious.

Same purpose, different means. In some of the starting race techs (the ones that give +5 research) it'll comment that some would steal precursor shards to ascend, and that this tech line will put us upon the line of true ascension.

Thanks. I've never been able to read those techs as I've never really played TOA; the decrease in starting funds from 5000 to 3000 bc is just too much of a pain to deal with.

Topic for another thread, I suppose.

I always envisioned the technology victory as some sort of bodily ascension into another dimension/universe/whatever. The Ascension victory, on the other hand, always struck me as a sort of transformation where your people are still "there" along with all the other races, but have attained a sort of enlightenment and power that lets them ignore everyone else.
