Theories of how Starcraft II could fail.

THIS IS A JOKE, SO DON'T GET ALL PISSED!!!

Here are my theories of how Starcraft II could fail (If you're a Blizzard fan boy, then you're likely to get pissed anyway):

Everyone spends a week camped outside the game store to get their hands on a copy of Starcraft II. Everyone gets it, and some problems come up:

1) The game uses intrusive DRM. People get pissed. "You Blizzard people should have known better!" kind of protests. Game gets posted on torrent sites, becomes the most torrented game in history, beating even Spore.

2) Gamestop releases the game early. People flood in and buy it. Preorder people feel like they've been screwed. Loads of people try to play online, but the servers aren't ready. People and reviewers get pissed. (Yes, this is what happened to Demigod)

3) Starcraft fans and worshippers get game. They play it. They feel like Blizzard has altered too much stuff in the game. They get pissed. They say game sucks, and potential players avoid the game.

4) Starcraft fans and worshippers get game. The play it. They feel like Blizzard didn't add enough new stuff to the game. They get pissed. They call Starcraft II things like disappointing, carbon copy with better graphics (graphic still won't blow anyone away, based on what I've seen), and stuff like that. They say game sucks, and potential players avoid the game.

5) Person who has either never heard of Starcraft II, or heard about it but hasn't played it (this situation would be after release, if that day ever comes). Person either buys game or plays a demo. Player thinks, "This game is like pretty much every other RTS out there! Three sides, breakneck pace, typical base building, and the other ingredients in an generic RTS!" Player stops playing. Alternatively, Player gets Starcraft II, goes online, and joins a match. There he gets his butt handed to him by a Korean Starcraft devotee. In either case, Player gets pissed and stops playing

6) (This will never happen, but it would SUCK for Blizzard!) All the Korean fans of Starcraft drool in anticipation of Starcraft II. They then learn that the South Korean government has banned Starcraft II for some reason, say, a hidden reference to the conflict between North and South Korea. Every single person in Korea gets pissed (Starcraft is the national pastime there). Riots start, on the street and the Internet (regular Koreans on the street, lazy Blizzard obsessed Koreans too fat to get out of their chairs on the internet). I don't wanna describe that mess anymore.

These are six theories. (Hopefully you'll find them funny). If you made up a new one, feel free to post it! Don't flood the thread with new theories, though.

7) People think Starcraft II might fail and Blizzard thinks it's funny to implement a self-fulfilling prophecy once in a while ;)

8) Starcraft 2 becomes too popular and requires too much bandwith usage and is banned by the government.

9) Constant delays will push back Starcraft II's release date to Dec. 12th, 2012 -- the beginning of the Mayan apocalypse -- a day in which populations will be decimated globally.  Less people on earth = less people to buy game.  PHAIL.

Edit: Actually, it's quite possible that the constant delays of SCII will be the cause of the apocalypse itself.  Korea will declare war on Blizzard (and its ally the USA) for not releasing the game in a timely fashion (I'm pretty sure this will be the plot of the next Dan Brown novel).

How Starcrap 2 will fail.  Two million Koreans will keep playing Starcrap 1 because they don't want to look for a new map hack. :)

Comments on theories:

1) Lol, that would make it extremely popular, though it would piss Blizzard off heaps.

2) If exactly that happened, I would laugh so hard becaue it is Blizzard and you can't be sure what they would do.

3&4) This is extremely valid.

5) Both possible, but not general cases.

6-9) Funny.

Lol I don't mind it to be carbon copy of the first starcraft, we all could use some better graphics and better AI ;)

Starcraft II could be frowned upon if it has DRM crazy crap like Spore, Red Alert 3, Mercenaries 2, and.... oh, Blizzard's not EA. Well it should be fine then.

By the way, has anyone bothered to try the ea thingy of a merge between battlefield 2 and lord of the rings? It was hyped up so much and now it's not even mentioned by anyone any more. I don't even remember it's name.

Seriously though. If Starcraft II has stupid drm like ea crap then I'm not getting it. I don't like renting computer games. This silly crap of buying a game at a retial store or even retail download and then having to use up one of three installations when I update my computer is stupid. I don't play that game.

No fan boy wrath yet. Let's keep it that way.

Oh and here's another theory: 10) Blizzard cancels Starcraft II just because they feel like it won't be popular enough (I've heard they did that to one of their projects before). People get PISSED. Riots break out all over the PC gaming world.

this topic is pretty negative and smells like a flame war brewing.  Can't we talk about something more positive?

(to the above post: that is a slanted explination as to why the canceled warcraft: adventures.  There were many other reasons as well, so its an unfair statement to say they canceled it for lack of popularity [in the adventure genre])

How dare you people say that StarCarft II will fail. That is blasphemy! You will all die in the fire of purification for this outrage.

Hallowed are the Ori.. oups, I meant Blizzard!

May the true path of Origin... damn it, i mean Blizzard... be made clear to those of you that have strayed from the path of Enlightenment. O:)

Seriously, StarCraft II is so not gonna fail. Have you guys seen the battle reports. StarCraft II will probably break the record for best selling game of all time. :P

yep they have put starcraft:ghost into "permanent hiatus" status. would have been a FPS in the SC universe.

(I've heard they did that to one of their projects before).

To my knowledge they actually abandon two nearly finished projects because they did not meet up to Blizzard's own unreasonable standards, we love you Blizzard, don't remove any other projects so near to completion.

These two games are StarCraft: Ghost and WarCraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans.

StarCraft: Ghost was especially interesting, it was a first person game, from the perspective of a Ghost, which was going to have a large single player campaign and online multiplayer with the classes, if I recall correctly, Pilot, Marine, Firebat, and Ghost. Also they made a book series if my info is correct, which you can read to get the story of Ghost.

Amusingly enough, I predict the OP's 3,4, and 5 will happen.  Fanboys(girls) are an interesting breed.  They should be studied, not shunned. ^_^
