NOT COOL

uninstalling the demo uninstalls the full version

This is soooo kludge.

I spent 40$ and 3 hours downloading what looks to be a great game last night.

This morning I play for a while, then do some maintenance. Part of the maintenance is removing demos I've DL'd lately and no longer want.  Uninstalling the demo requires a redownload and reinstall of the full game.

FIX THIS! either provide a warning on the users local machine or update your automatic installtion procedure so that uninstalling the demo doesn't break the game.

May I suggest to use the "Archive" function once you download a game with this platform, this will create local files (that you can burn or store) to reinstall the game without having to redownload the whole damn thing.

While I understand your pain, uninstalling a "previous" version is quite often a requirement for applications & games and demos could be understood as "previous" versions.

On the other hand, with a little registry knowledge it's probably fixable. But I agree with you that the game should definetely check out if any demo is installed and suggest to uninstall before continuing ...

I have little hope of this going to be fixed for galciv2 though, since galciv2 won't have anymore major update.

When we send you an e-mail from Sales (the one with your game serial number, et. al.) there is a statement advising you to uninstall any trial or free versions before installing your paid for copy.

"NOTE: If you currently have the trial version of this product installed,
you MUST uninstall and reboot before installing the full version from
the link below."

I stand corrected.  I do feel much better about the purchase knowing it was my mistake that caused the problem. Thanks for the reply.

I did actually archive the files after downloading them, but I can't find any instructions in these forums, the impulse forums, or the impulse help files on how to unarchive the files.

Since the archived version may be corrupted with some of the demo files, it might not be a good idea to restore it.

You're probably better off reinstalling the game, and then make a new archive.

Thanks, I did re-download/install/archive after uninstalling the demo. I'm still looking for info on how to use the archives to reinstall. I've got everything up and running fine now, but I'm sure I'll need to reinstall it sometime.

Click the blue orb in the upper left corner and click restore archive.  They're located in the \Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\Backup folder for All Users.  If you go up one folder and Explore to it, it's easier than locating it manualy, for when you want to back up the archives.

Thank you very much. 5*

I would have never found that on my own.

If I had a credit card, I just might use Impulse (I believe that's what everyone's talking about).
