[Suggestion] VoiP

The game is turning out well.  However, there is no communication between you and your ally.  The text writing you might send to your ally gets lost in the shuffle of writing.  There should be an indicator (noise alert) when you are getting a PM from your Ally or at least color code the ally's writing.  Voice over IP would make it this game incredibly good (it can help with the strategy)

I think programs such as vent and teamspeak are best at this. Games try to put VoiP in and it never works... E.G CnC3...

Would be cool to add it to Impulse though. I never like ingame Voips

Just something simple like Counter strike's or left 4 deads would be fantastic though... valve's implementation on voip in those games makes me sorely miss the same when playing strats...

As long as I have a mute button, I'll be happy :D

Team Fortress 2 has ingame VoIP and I know for a fact that if it did not have that, it would be close to unplayable. It works well in TF2, but then again TF2 allows for ingame joining, while Demigod uses the standard RTS method of locked teams. My point being, in TF2, spammers get kicked. In Demigod, they're your teammate.

Agreed, however the mute feature would solve this.

Typing to communicate has become an archaic way of communicating in todays games, where the precious time (slightly over dramatic) your hands are away from the mouse/keyboard could make the difference between a kill or being killed.

I'm willing to spare a finger to hit C or V or whatever it's mapped to, but using both hands to type discussions is bad these days, I feel. If it were a turtleing game, sure, but not this.

Best-

I agree with Rackjabbit. Typing is slow, and with the current system, especially easy to miss.

A team with voice commication always does better then one without. The option of muting individual players eliminates any spamming potential over voice.

I have suggested this multiple times.  It seems stardock and gpg do not see this as a priority at the current time for this game.  I think it should be a priority because to me this has such a team and action feel like tf2. From my discussions and posts, I think the development time or liscencing costs make this idea prohibitive.

I use steam to chat in the background while playing this game, but wish it was implemented in game.

I really can't believe they aren't including VoIP with Demigod - it seems to be a massive shortfall, in a team based game. There was a previous topic about this somewhere, i can't be bothered finding it - but one of the dev's basically said it was too much work to include voip in the game - personally i'd rather pay an extra $5 and have ingame voip, cs style. Ventrilo and TS are nice, but are useless for pub games.

I use Steam as my VOIP chat system in game as well. but for some reason I cannot get ANY stardock game to work properly with Steams ingame interface so i end up playing the game in a window or risk alt tabbing. I think that voip shouldn't be high on there priority list however as most people have figured out how to do this anyway. Ill take a focus on gameplay over voice chat anyday ;)

I won't pretend to know anything about how hard it would be to add but it seems to me that this is a big way to draw players if not directly then indirectly by having players connect with each other and enjoy the game much more.  If people really want they could just mute all voice communication so that wouldn't be a big deal but basic voice communication would be AWESOME.  I hope this thread gets a little more attention and input so this can hopefully be added to the game.

It could be something to do with the Impulse framework.  In which case SD will have to implement it and it would be far down the pipeline, since I think they are still streamlining what they have.

This would be a total value-add to the game.  And with the mute feature (particularly individual-player muting) it does nothing but add to the game.  I know that this game isn't Dota, but developer objections aside, it is very close to it.  As such, it needs to take the good things that DOTA does and do them the way you could if you owned the platform.  Dynamic power-matching the teams is one good example of GPG having the right idea.  VOIP I believe s a similar issue where it would do nothing but add to the game.  There is no balancing or gameplay issues involved.  Like better graphics or less game lag, it's all good.  I really hope it makes its way into the final game.

The reason that they gave as to why they did not implement it was its cost.

In world in conflict (a lot of common with DG) Voip is implemented and never been used.

But for communication solution look at the way massive implemented request system.

I'd like to say I think DG would be great with this, but I can see that it's a big ask at this stage.
