For the past 2 years, Stardock has been working on a brand new digital distribution platform.  The idea was to create something that was compelling on its own, allowed users to purchase, download, and update any type of software, and provide developers and users a way to add new functionality to their programs.

This week, the fruits of this effort will be released: Impulse.

Why don't you click on the 'Preview' link and find out exactly what it is?

All I know is that I already preferred Impulse over SDC. When the new functionalities are included (minimizing to dock, program organization, etc.) I'm sure I'll use it even more often.

Yes, Impulse also downloads a lot faster.

Still got a few problems, though: Some game updates aren't on impulse when they're out on SDC; Impulse doesn't use the user selected installation path...

If that ends up in final release, thats a potential show stopper - its almost a given these days that programmes should be capable of storing, at the very least, the top level directory of the programme in the user selected areas of the disk if preferred.

It looks like it can in the newest version I've got. It's up in the 'Preferences' tab.

Yes, the preference is there, I have it as well.

Try the following: Uninstall a game (say, Sins or GC2). Install via Impulse. Choose the path. Impulse adds /Stardock/Totalgaming.net/

That's been fixed for a while.

It's less intimidating than stardock, but less powerful.

Not that I miss any features. It is in fact a massive improvement and I happily await it's release.

Faster? I've had it running for like 2 hours to update my GalCiv2 and it still says "Starting download". When will it start?
