How Scince fiction fans are sterotyped.

Most scifi fans have been sterotyped as , fat, middle aged men living in their mother's basement and are always shown with glasses as shown is this pic,

a common word for us is nerd and this is what they say about us in this pic that shows intororence to us,

Intolorent bullshit, that's what is is :(

You on a posting tear or what?

Heh. Doesn't bother me much. Let people think what they want. As with any stereotype, if people don't look beyond their assumptions, they miss a helluva lot and it only makes them look like idiots.

and i am happily married with a kid while they haven't be able to hold a relationship for more than a weekend.

Hmmmmmm..... Lets see....

Consider these movies:

Napoleon Dynamite, 40 year old virgin, Norbit, SuperBad

Now consider these movies:

Chronicles of Riddick (and Pitch Black), Serenity, Aeon Flux

Who is being Imbued with wonder... ... and who is being slandered

NAMING IS DECIDING

The one who names, decides

In this society, there are those who embrace and celebrate the qualities of people...

and there are those who spread False Negative Perceptions about others for their own self interests

Other examples: anything that Spike Lee creates (pencil neck geeks)

For what purpose is this done?

There are limited resources in the world that everyone competes for...
There is unlimited human labor potential...

So, the ones marked as ugly, gay, retarded, or otherwise Unwanted by mainstream society are stripped of any qualities that would give them a fair advantage.

This is a tactic used by Empiric Religion to destroy it's enemies, and in most modern religions, if you don't feed the religion, you are a direct threat to it...

Hadrian of Rome built his wall in England to keep from overextending his empire, because the Local militia (Druids, Boudica, etc), was too powerful, so to lay siege to such a vast area (they didn't have novaliths), they slandered their enemies by identifying everything Pagan with Satan (all that Sacred Feminine stuff from DaVinci code :)

Or in the Bible when they wrote about one sect of people being all descended from incest...

The definition of the word "Burk", to be Burked, is to rob graves, named after this Burk guy who got off lightly because society changed from it's former stance of allowing such activities (if done quietly), so his mane is forever burned into crime...

************************

In Sins of a Solar Empire, tell me you haven't used the Novalith to destroy a few planets and end the game quickly...

We are all human, and as such, we must recognize our every potential, to do any less is just not our way. But to recognize the potential of others is to open the doors to losing the power gained by the destruction of others.

Manipulation of the perception of others is something done by humans, you have not been fighting back, lets coin some new phrases:

Crin=minal Cops, Footrball Fagts, Car Kevorkians, Devil Dogs, etc....

Naming is deciding...

Choose your side, and FIGHT!!!

Yeah, nerds definitely come out on top in the end. The nerdiest kid in my school growing up, who got picked on a lot, sold an OS he made in college to some company in San Fran. They flew him down there and I guess he just parties all the time while they deliver his paycheques in the form of wheelbarrows full of cash to his front door.

And besides, in many circles geek is chic nowadays. All the cool kids I know host supervillain/robot potlucks, play dungeons & dragons and discuss history while playing Risk. We also go to see live music, go camping, mountain biking, and get up to all kinds of other creative shenanigans. Not many people fit comfortably into a stereotype.

This thread makes me think of the old game show skit from SNL with Emelio Estavez. I think it was called "Geek, Dweeb, or Spaz". Does anyone else remember that?

And that first picture, he's not a nerd, he is clearly a geeky-dweeb. And although he does look a little "Sci-Fi", I think that's just his cover so you can't tell he is a serial murderer...

Everybody, we need to let our Geek flag fly! Together we hack the computer of the jocks, separately will be bullied!

Those pictures made me lol and I'm a huge Sci fi fan. Those seem to me more like Chess club or math club nerds, not sci fi nerds. By looking at me you couldn't tell I was one...

I also like this one for nerds and geeks...

Poor Toby (first pic).

There are good people and bad people in this classification. The bad ones are the sort who long ago realized they couldn't fit into normal society, so they talk loudly all the time about things few care about (to grab attention) and don't give a damn that they're annoying. The good ones are able to function positively in society, use their skills to make good cash, and make Star Wars figure collecting cool.

Sadly, Toby always falls in the former category to me due to his persona, but I can't help but feel that part of this is due to psychological or physical issues, so I don't let him get to me. But watching him in action, it's unfathomable to me that such a a person exists. He's...indescribable.

Vin diesel has been playing dungeons and dragons since it came out.Thats why his game was good it came from a gamer not a greedy exec. If anyone's played his Xbox game.

It was a great games. Just a little short, but on par in length with most from that genre.

Some stereotypes may hold some truths, but most are laughable. I'm a sci-fi fan, sitting in a room with a PC and hundreds of "Action Figures", whether they be Transformers, ICP Figures or even nascar. I just collect stuff :). The other side of the coins is I'm a fit(muscular)construction worker who drives a pick-up and has been called a "redneck" on more than one occasion. The perception can totally change depending on if you see me from the co-worker side or the home/friend side. To often people are judged by what is a small part of their overall personality.

Just let them keep underestimating you (and they will). It's one more way to win in this world... :)

Besides, nerd girls are the best. Smart, fun, loyal, honest.
I married one and it's one of the best decisions I ever made!

You don't have to look, talk, and smell strange to be a sci-fi nerd or a nerd in general. If you've seen me, you wouldn't be able to tell I was a sci-fi nerd. Since the very second I saw a spaceship with lasers on it, I was a "sci-fi" nerd(thank-you Star Wars's 4-6) and you could not tell I was a sci-fi nerd unless you knew me well. Games like SOASE keep the nerd in me going.

P.S. You can thank pop culture for exaggerating what the general population of nerds are

P.S.S You can thank Dr. Suess for coming up with the word nerd.

P.S.S.S It is true that the nerds get out on top. I, a nerd, am going to a college prep high school, SIHS. I'm owning with a 3.6(pending due to unupdated grades and finals that need to be graded). People call me a nerd for managing a 3.6. Well a lot of people who belong to big buisness went there and came out with higher GPA's. The producer of SNL and the guy who came out with adobe went to SIHS. So nerds, be proud, for you walk in the footsteps of people who make the world funnier, more effcient, and a hellova lot more livable

You were doing really well there until you absolutely failed at giving a history lesson and went off on religion.

Constantine, you know the guy who made Christianity the bigshot religion in the Roman Empire, came around about 200 years AFTER Hadrian.

Hadrian built the wall because of the crazy Picts; it wasn't cost-effective to take over the area.

Again, kudos for going for the "Winners Write History" argument, but phale for getting it wrong.

I'm damn proud to be a history nerd! I

There's nothing wrong w/ being a nerd!!
Those who insult/bully/make fun, only do so because they themselves are compensating for thier own shortcommings.

That and they know there's no way they could beat us in a game of risk :-)

Hell, we're so harcore we even have the original wooden peices too!
