About to purchase the Ultimate Bundle pack

Got some Qs for the sake of clarification

Hey guys,

Saw the review of the newest expansion on IGN and the game seems very interesting to me. I did some more research reading the various blogs and galciv.com news items (the youtube videos on AI development was especially enlightening) and I'm simply baffled by the amount of care and love that has gone into producing this game.

I've been so accustomed to being force fed poorly designed rushed games that this, in comparison, feels like taking in a lung-full of fresh air. So I'm dead set on buying the complete trilogy. I just have a few questions:

1. The bundle pack is limited to digital distribution only. Do the physical retail packages come with some cool swag? I'm a sucker for nice looking manuals and charts. I still have the Fallout manual lying around in mint condition just cause it was so nice.

2. From what I've read, there were some collector's editions released and they had some unique or bonus ship components. Will this ultimate bundle include those? If not, is it a big deal? What will I be missing out on?

3. Is the digital download one single install (fully patched and updated) or three individual game setups?

Thanks in advance. Cheers.

1) As far as I know, the boxed version doesn't offer any extra goodies.

2) I got the collectors edition, it only adds some ship jewelry. Nothing functional or essential. Nice to have, but you're not really missing out on anything.

3) The digital download comes with zero installations. :P

You register the games to your email address (important!) then install Stardock Central or Impulse. These tools allow you to automatically install all software you purchased from Stardock or Totalgaming.net and keep it up to date.

The boxed Collector's Edition of the original GalCiv2 did come with a poster of the original tech tree. You can also download it here:

The CE content (the extra jewelry, etc.) for the original is here, and it may work on new downloads. You'll have to try and see, but I suspect it will work. Use one of the two bottom links on that page, NOT the top one. That is an old patch; you'll get the newest with the Ultimate Edition.

The original GalCiv2 manual, which I like a bit better than the Gold manual, is here.

Thanks for the help.

I'm gonna buy it as soon as I'm home from work. I predict a very harsh learning curve. :p

I think the collectors edition extra content has been rolled into the patches now, so there's no need to download the extra.

I could be wrong though. So if someone could verify?

Yep, it's been included since the DL/DA bundle pack came out.

As far as the install, I'd probably stick with Stardock Central for now, rather than Impulse. While I love me my Impulse, it's still technically a beta program, whereas Stardock Central is tried and true.

It should be, especially if you've got Gold/DA.

So Impulse is a digital distribution platform akin to Steam (minus the rigid requirements, from what I gather)?

Will my current purchase in Stardock Central be transferable to it?

Yes. All the stuff you purchased in SDC is still available. Impulse and SDC are just methods of delivery, both accessing the same central server.
