The issues of The Political Machine

A look at the back end

Tonight (4:28am so technically this morning) I'm hanging out on the GalCiv II forums between compiles.

The above is the issue editor for The Political Machine 2008.  In it, I must go through every conceivable issue, write a description and then put in the values.

The values on position are between -10 (strongly against) and positive 10 (strongly in favor). The other variable (new in this version) is how important the issue is which is on a scale from 1 to 10.

I also have the ability to go and create different values in different states. We have a lot of census and polling data to look at to come up with different values in the states. So it's going to be a long month.

Congrats on the release! I've downloaded Twilight but haven't really played my first game yet. As a GalCiv2 fan I'm looking forward to it. Also looking forward to this one coming out!!

Any chance the issues editor will be part of the final game, allowing the player to update the importance of issues or create new ones entirely so when one plays 'what if' scenarios, the issues could better reflect those of the scenario instead of the game constantly being about 2008?

Or better yet - how about the ability to import from polling firms?

In fact, you'd think a SUSA, a Rassmussen, a Zogby would jump at the chance to partner.

Zogby in particular - some of their poor record this cycle aside, I think seems to be on the forefront of trying to find ways to incorporate new technology into production methods for their 'product'.

I'd also check out http://www.fivethirtyeight.com.

This guy's been doing polling and demographic analysis and tracking the campaign for months now.

Very good stuff - if he'd be willing to share his data, I bet you couldn't do any better....

Does anyone know what all the issues are in this game like

IRAQWAR and ILLEGALIMMIGRATION like they were listed in the old political machine game.

Are they any new ones and does anyone have a list of all of them ?
