The Word Monkey is Now Off Limits

Obama's race police now on patrol

In another case of liberals tripping over their own political correctness comes this story.

Moving to nip in the bud some potential bad press, White House hopeful Barack Obama's campaign persuaded a delegate to step down after she was ticketed for calling her neighbor's African-American children "monkeys."
End of quote

What?????  Monkeys?  She must be a racist....right?[more]

On Saturday, two neighbor children were playing in the tree next-door to her house.

Ramirez-Sliwinski "came outside and told the children to quit playing in the tree like monkeys. The tree was not on Ramirez-Sliwinski's property," Carpentersville Police Commander Michael Kilbourne said.

Ramirez-Sliwinski admitted she used the word "monkeys," but said she did not intend racism. She said she was only trying to protect them from falling out of the tree.

End of quote

But that wasn't good enough for the Obama campaign, you know, the person who will "unite" America.

Told of the incident Monday by the Sun-Times, Obama's campaign called Ramirez-Sliwinski and persuaded her to step aside as a delegate because the campaign felt her remarks were "divisive and unacceptable."
End of quote

Wow.  So people can't say the word "monkey" anymore because the Obama camp thinks it's "divisive".  How ridiculous.

Uh, what about people who use this as a euphamism for the vagina?

Do they count as being racist? Or racist white trash?

hahahahaha

I crack myself up.

Well Mason, in Mississippi, they use it as I described.  They also call flipping someone the bird, flipping a boner.

What is up with that?

Leave it to our resident animal expert to provide us a list of monkeys!

It is stupid. The terms I use for my children include, yard Apes, Grub Snatchers, Rug Rats, and billy goats! I guess I am being racist about my own children then.  :SURPRISED:

The people of the White race, filled with white guilt are responsible for all this nonsense.

Letting Racists like Sharpton, Jackson, Wright and Farrakhan set the bar for what is racist and what is not, soon any reference to a black at all will be considered racist, unless they are called sir or madame.

Kids are all like monkeys. They climb stuff, do whatever they want just for the fun of it, and fling poo. You know they would if you left them to their own devices.

Don't kid yourself. It wasn't THAT well thought out. :D

Good subject matter, but only 4 lines of commentary! Something needed to be done.

Seriously, the offensive thing about it for me is that someone would take the word "monkey" offensively. Seriously, you can call me a monkey. I don't care.

Try it.

You're the Darwinists anywyays.

You gotta love minority on minority political correctness.

What really bothers me about this story is the fact she was ticketed for this.

Ramirez-Sliwinski's $75 ticket was for "disorderly conduct," which Kilbourne defined as, "when a person does something that alarms or disturbs another."
End of quote

With a definition that broad, I think we'd all be getting multiple tickets every day.

And, by the way, how about calling the police because you think someone said something "racially insensitive" about your child? The only thing stupider is that the police responded... and acted on it!

Wait, I have to consult an atlas. This is still America, right?

(Richard Roeper comments on it at this link.)

In Australia 'monkey' is a racist epithet for Malays - that's pretty common throughout the region, actually.

So my first thought was that it's always been off-limits when used to describe other people. Of course, the particular circumstance goes a long way towards justifying it - climbing in trees is like monkeys, so I'd say even a $75 fine was overboard. Telling her not to be such a damn fool next time would have been a fairer move.

And that is where we disagree. Children playing in trees are like monkeys. And to ban that speech because some moron with an IQ of silly putty might get offended is to abolish free speech. After all, there are a lot more morons than thinking people. And everyone is offended by something they do not understand.

Niggardly anyone?

Let me get this straight.

Obama camp is offended when someone uses the word "monkey" in a non-racist fashion.

Jeremiah Wright  goes on racial rants and.....what?

The employee of a candidate for a racially charged election must meet a higher level of conduct than an ordinary citizen. If she's so stupid she stuffs up like she did, she doesn't deserve her job with the campaign.

But she shouldn't have been fined. The police officer should have been able to figure that one out with a quiet word about appropriate and inappropriate times to describe other people as animals. Your own children/someone you know well/1950s - go for it. Anyone else - rethink it.

But she's not an employee, unless I missed something. She was assigned or elected (however it works in that particular state) to go to the convention as a delegate who will cast a vote for the party nominee.

I love this part. The irony is that the "racially charged" is coming from the candidate himself. As he tries to appeal to the greater population, while still using racism (or actually just the charge of it) as a shield to avoid tough issues and questions.

No, the election is not racially charged, but like all american liberals, he plays the victim very well.

And he is still wrong and full of crap.
