SDC trouble

extremely slow download

I'm currently trying to install gc2 on my laptop via SDC. But on both servers I'm getting nerve-wrecklingly slow download rates (~20 kb/s on a 3 mbit pipe). Any suggestions how to solve this?

Why don't you archive all parts of GC2 on your main computer and transfer them to your laptop. Then use SDC to install the game.

Would. If I had my main computer with me... visiting my parents, and I forgot to install gc2 before I packed up...

Do you route to it?
Cuz, it maybe a low bandwidth ratio caused either by the ISP or even the laptop "response"... this is a common issue with some connections via routers & alikes since a slightly different configuration must be adapted to the F-Lappy inherent structure.

I can't really provide a solution, but i would suggest some verification of the ISP-Feed-layout(s) or/and if so.. the eTher/Router/Modem calibration & actual parameters.

Already did a speed test, is confirms slightly below the 3mbit mark available to my router and laptop. I don't really expect SD to be able to 'fix' it, unless they buy another fileserver somewhere in Europe or integrate bittorrent protocols into SDC...

For what's it worth, I did a traceroute to totalgaming.net (which I suppose is the site hosting the files):

Quite a few hops, but only nr. 10 really sticks out.

I also noticed that the download speed fluctuates heavily between 10kb/s, 25 kb/s (mostly) and a few peaks at 75 kb/s. Earlier today I had full 280 kb/s, but due to a user error I had to restart the download (don't ask, it involves a hard drive, space available and the windows/temp folder... *smacks forehead*) and that's about as fast as I now get...

Fascinating. It's back at 350 kb/s. And there was much rejoicing. :D

(Sorry, was kinda frustrated after work today and the slow download caused an immediate need to vent. Thanks for your patience. ;) )

I'm glad you got it going pndrev. I have found that SDC will be extremely slow at times for whatever reason. I usually just try again a little later like you did and it's fine then.
