Upgrading all ships of a given type

Is there some way to upgrade all ships of a given model, say after you've just designed a newer model taking advantage of new technology? I thought I saw something like "upgrade all" somewhere in the game, but I can't find it again. I'm playing DL, I don't have DA yet.

When you open the upgrade dialog, there's a checkbox to upgrade all ships of that class to the one you select, rather than just the one ship.

You find that checkbox beneath the upper left window that shows your current ship graphics.

Yet, I think there should be sort of a upgrade-screen, which shows and lets you select the current ships of a certain class you want to upgrade. Quite often, I only want to upgrade the ships at the front, whereas some ships in the back, e.g. near my allies, I do not want to upgrade now. Or sometimes I do not realize, that a certain ship of that type in question is near an enemy fleet and when upgrading that ship, my whole fleet comes to a halt and is in grave danger.

If that would be too complicated: Give us an upgrade-button, please. I would be glad for anything that reduces the micro-management of upgrading.

I've had that happen a few times, when I didn't notice an upgrade was happening too close to the front lines.

It would be nice if, when selecting the "all" button for upgrades, a flashing circle would be thrown around all the ships that would be included in the operation. Then we could pan around the galaxy map, review the positions and any nearby threats, and click on ships we didn't want included to remove the flashing circle. That seems like it wouldn't be too terribly difficult to program (I know, easy for me to say), and it wouldn't require creating a whole new screen for upgrading... just use the normal galaxy map.

Sounds unnecessary and overly complicated IMO. If you're going to go around checking each ship individually, why not simply upgrade them individually?

I would, however, love to see an "upgrade all ships of this class in this fleet" checkbox. Kind of a halfway option between the current system and what you asked for.

Depends on the map size and number of ships/fleets, I guess. It can be a bit tedious locating and clicking on individual ships if I only want to upgrade, say half of a certain class for either financial or strategic reasons. Especially when I have a LOT of that type, like swarm-type mini fighters.

Yep, a single fleet upgrade choice would be good.

Ok, I feel like a complete idiot for asking this, but I can't seem to find the button some of you have referred to (I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I'm playing only DL and not DA). Would someone PLEASE give me step-by-step instructions on where to find this button to upgrade all ships of a given class to another class?

Click on any ship that's the class you want to upgrade, in the main galaxy map. At the left side of the detail window at the bottom of the screen, there is an upgrade button.

Click that, and you'll see the upgrade screen. In the upper left corner of that next screen, there is a small 3D image of the ship. Right under that should be a check mark for "all." That's for DA... I think it worked the same way in DL and the original game, but I can't remember.

have you updated your copy of DL? it's been so long since i played DL 1.0 that i can't remember, but i wouldn't be surprised if that check box wasn't there.

A second check box - Upgrade all ships of x class to Y class, in this fleet only.. would be very nice.
