Retail Update confusion!

No way to be sure what version being downloaded.

https://www.galciv2.com/collectorsedition/
Hello,

I am frustrated by inexact info regarding updating my retail copy of Gal Civ II - Dread Lords.

I bought my copy Feb 24/2007. It is version 1.2.

When I look at these options, I have to guess what is appropriate to dl upon my v1.2 game.

Galactic Civilizations II Bonus Pack:
Enable Collectors Edition Content only (Windows 9x/2000/XP):
Install Galactic Civilizations II Desktop Enable Collectors Edition (Windows XP or later):

So, I guess on the first one, but I see nothing to tell me what "collectors edition" has to do with v1.40X...

I shouldn't have to guess - it should be clear as sunshine!

Please clarify, for me thank you.

-A B

PS: I like the game, but I am frustrated by your web site!

I'm not sure why the update link is now pointing at the Collector's Edition page, but if you have 1.2 already, the Bonus Pack on that page (being simply an older patch) should be avoided at all costs; it will break your installation and you'll have to reinstall.

The other two items there enable some extra ship parts (which should also be already included in 1.2, AFAIK), and the collector's edition desktop theme, should you want it.

As the 1.4x patch appears to have been removed from the downloads page, you'll need to update the game via Stardock Central.

Thank you for the news... Here's the really odd thing: I installed the first item, that Bonus Pack, and after registering I could resume a pre-patch game. No problems! And, when I looked at the lower left of the main menu screen to load a game I see "v1.4x"!!!

So, since the game seems to work, a few minor problems with v1.2 seem to be corrected, I can only assume I made the correct guess.

And that's the problem from the start: the Retail Update process is NOT CLEAR regarding versions and what to load, and that information on that part of the site needs to be made more consumer friendly. Right now it isn't - it is frustrating.

Btw: I enjoy the game! But the web site really needs some "polish"!

Hmm, it appears that the bonus pack was replaced with the 1.4x patch, so then you are indeed good to go as you thought. Previously the file that the bonus pack button linked to was the 1.0X patch, quite a different thing.
