Got sucked in big time this morning

Hi

Just wasted the whole of my Sunday morning - 4 hours for nothing thanks to Stardock!

I was trying to CNTRL+N a good looking map for Dreadlords on Parade, the idea is for me to be isolated away from the main group of stars on a large map, that way, hopefully the Dreadlords won't commit suicide by throwing everything at me and letting the other AI's kill them, which is what they normally do if i am close by.

So i got a nice group of stars in a corner on my own, wonderful, also got a 700 science bonus on Earth! wasnt even looking for one either, lucky me.

Colonised a few worlds and found one with a 700 manufacturing bonus! lucky me again.

I noticed the AI's were a bit slower than normal on technology but i assumed it was because i had the 700 science bonus. Also the Ai's managed to crowd me in like they normally do in the colony rush.

I got up a few servey ships and wasted my investment since i only made about 4000bc after investing about 5000bc! anomalies were set to abundant too! Then when the servey ships deactivated, i upgraded them all with some serious range which cost me another 4000bc then when they finished upgrading... Nothing! all anomalies gone already!! Why do i listen to people who say anomalies are good?? Blah, waste of time.

I began to notice allot of uncolonized planets around the place, i thought it strange since the AI's managed to rush planets in my area.... turns out that the AI's rushed past all their own planets to colonise mine because they were set to 'fool' and weren't intending to build more colony ships!!!! If they hadn't rushed into my area then i would have realised streight away thatr i had been stung by that pain in the ass secret sneaky reset difficulty level bug.

I have gotten 2 Manufacturing 300% bonus tiles on my homeworld (Earth) a few times, though not the Big One. Lucky you (envy).

Lucky me? no, it was wasted because the difficulty setting was changed without my permission from the 'masochistic' level i chose to the 'fool' level chosen for me by the game. But i mean who am i to complain, i am just the person who bought the game, so what right do i have to decide what difficulty level i should play?? (sarcasm alert)

If you want to hear what i got that was lucky... the second last mission in the DL campaign i got a 700 manufacturing bonus on earth!

I didn't even have to capture that planet at the bottom of the map to win! I assume one of my allies captured it since the Dreadlords were wasting all their ships attacking me - and loosing!

The Ctrl+N tends to reset the AI when you use it. ><

Take the time? yea why not waste my precious weekend time playing around with the main menue, i mean it is not as if i actually want to quickly and conviniently use CNTRL+N to find a good map or anything like that, yea good idea!

The game did it to me again, reset to fool, i am furious. So befor i go ranting off about how this game is a piece of shit and i'm just glad i havn't wasted my money on DA yet.... before i do that, is there a patch to fix this infuriating reset difficulty level bug?

Also i have noticed how the economic slider bar padlock always manages to remember how i last set it from game to game, why carn't the difficulty setting be like that good little padlock?

See, now something like this never happens to me. This is what baffles me about this game... to see similar 'issues' but then to find out that even though someone else may be having those same issues, they or you may be having an entirely different set of things going on. I can Ctrl+N all day long and the intelligence stays set where I had it. Can I play without memory write issues and CTD's... not usually. Does my turn button work... yes. Does my autopilot work... AFAIK. Does my screen 'freeze'... not at all. Like I said guys, something strange going on.
As a sidenote, I actually tried playing a couple of games yesterday, other than DA of course since that seems to be ALL I play, and both SimCity 4 and Warhammer 40K ran like a dream. Thought maybe I'd see if other games were having issues that maybe were the result of my system vs. the software. Still waiting for newegg and my OCZ RAM. Maybe Monday, I hope, I hope, I hope!!!

Mystik, have you heard of anyone having this issue on a normal sandbox game? I've heard of it for the campaign, and I've experienced it in the DA campaign (though it was the first build and I think it's fixed now). Maybe it's that particular scenario that has that problem in your version.

I don't think I've ever used Ctrl-N, or restarted. Whatever I get I have to live with. I haven't played past challenging yet though, so maybe you have to have those to have a chance, I don't know.

Actually i never had it happen to me before either! I didn't play for a while, then suddenly it starts doing it? I havn't updated or anything?

The only thing that changed on my system was that i installed AVG free antivirus - but i dissabled it's auto start in msconfig (thank God for msconfig!). I only want the antivirus running when i wan't it, and i don't wan't to hear a peep out of it other than that!

Also i got an antispyware spyware on my computer - you know the ones, those spyware that bring up some asseholes antispyware website. Had to use 'hijack this' to nail his ass, and even then it kept comming back! Luckily hijack this program gave me the directory path so i restarted in safe mode and deleted it's ass. (thank God for safe mode too).
