Dark Avatar on Vista

Since this game was so recently released why doesn't it install an icon into the Vista Games folder with the ratings info and stuff?

Can we get this working for a future update?

It *should* be set up in the Vista Game Explorer, whether you installed through SDC or from a GC2:Gold disc. If it isn't showing up for you, I'm not sure why it wouldn't.

Vista Game Explorer

Vista Game Explorer? Just the sound of this makes me gag.

Sorry for the interruption, couldn't help myself.

I love your random acts of regurgitation Mumblefratz... seems anything to do with Microsoft will do that to you eh?

Yeah. They do tend to push my buttons. I just love the idea of having to explore for games on my PC that I've paid for. I wonder what cartoon avatar it's animated with. I guess this would be cool if you're 3.

Nope, it installed into the start menu/all programs list like it always has. I'll try installing it again.

The Games Explorer is way cooler than just having an icon in the start menu or an icon on the desktop. The icons are large and colourful and the ESRB and Recommended System Ratings are nice.

Ok so I spent all day downloading and installing a new Dark Avatar. The game does not install into the games explorer. For Stardock a company that prides itself on looking nice it sucks that their new game doesn't have an entry.

Man you're going to have a lot of fun with Vista.

Consider this the first of many disappointments.

It's not a Vista problem it's a Stardock problem. They have to set up the icon and the downloadable information for the ratings and recommendations, not Microsoft. I don't expect the companies of older games that I have to update their games to work with the explorer but for one that just came out I do. Btw all the Microsoft games I've installed just to see if they install into the explorer, way back to Age of Empires, have been updated which is cool.

It worked for me. Well...it says GalCiv2 instead of DA and the release date is way wrong but hey it gets me to the game.

Necaradan, is there a file in your GC2 folder named GDFGC2Install.exe? AFAIK that is the mini-program that sets up the VGE stuff for GC2/DA. If it is there, try running it directly.

Yep, the file is there but when I run it nothing happens. Vista gives me the compatibility dialog asking if the program worked correctly or should run with recommended settings. Both options had no effect. I also found another file with the same name in the Dark Avatar folder which didn't seem to do anything either.
