lol, stop being paranoid and relax. it was just being imaginative on the first post when you didn't understood what i was saying. if you read back it was meant to be joked about how good the details is on the planets surface. unless your imagination is limited tho it's always good to keep an open mind, no conspiracy here man so don't panik.

Most things seem to be on a plane. Is this a coincidence or will most things happen on a plane?

Since it is 3D...what do you think?

I think that fleet may just be flying in a 2D formation, to minimise how many of their ships can be hit by defences.

as long as it has a x, y axis feature i'd be the happiest customer ironclad can feed off of . you can't ignore those basic x, y expresions.

you just want left/right and forward/backward?
what happened to up/down?

and besides, they already declared that the game is in 3-D, so no worries.

Homeworld was 3d. So was Nexus. But they're vastly different (camera- + movement-wise). When the beta comes out we can finally tell which one Sins is.
so this is about camera?
I doubt you can make an educated guess from the pictures. those have been staged for drama.

Sins is full 3d. You can choose to move ships up and down if you like or leave it to the AI to handle.  There are various camera modes and we may add more based on feedback. All screenshots are taken using one of the camera option combinations that will be available in the beta. None of our screenshots are 'setup'. One of us usually has a save game of a big battle or something and then we move the camera around looking for a cool shot at a cool angle. For this particular screenshot I found that TEC frigate getting nailed by the beam and thought it would look neat to roll the camera for dramatic effect. You will be able to do this at any point in while playing the game by holding down both mouse buttons.

please don't, or at least make it optional. I liek shiny, but i really, really hate lensflare and 'shinyfiers' that take up hald my screen.

no, the sun is being 'us' with the background light being a nebula thingy.

about the camera, I can't really think of a use for a camera that's able to roll, other then cinematic effect. of course, i've never played a game where the camera could roll, so that might be it.

also, as nooone has pointed out yet: THEY MISSED!
and i'm not talking about the weapon, the point of impact on the shield is not the same as the blast showing it's being hit....

the spray is in the wrong place. or am i not getting it?

It is a TEC Frigate after all.

Alcari is right about the star being behind the camera and the glowly bit being a distant nebulae. If the camera was moved to the other side you would see the dark side of the ship and an appropriate lens flare.

Now that I look closely there is actually another weapon hitting the shield. All weapons have unique impact effects and I know which one looks like that and it isn't a beam

Roll on the camera is basically for watching battles in a cinematic fashion. You can ignore it for gameplay purposes.

I take it your not about to tell us what the weapons actually is?

my guess is either a piercing missle, or a high velocity projectile...
nothing else should create such a powerful and directional kickback.

That explains it a little bit then, Blair. Sorry for underestimating that nebula as the light source!

And I want to point out it's not about the camera. I know and have confirmation that camera is fully 3d (because Blair said so a while ago). I'm mainly talking about the ships and their orientation. They are always orientated so you have a clear idea of what's "up" and "down". Realistically speaking, it would be nice to have that, but, practically, it'd be sort of disorientating and confusing.

But, of course, this is all still up to re-evaluation once the beta is finally out.
