Getting Dreadlords on parade to work?

Hi
Every time i try to play Dreadlords on parade, the other AI races quickly eliminate the Dreadlords.

This problem is made worse by the fact that i cannot reduce the number of AI players.

Also the Dreadlords always commit suicide by completely ignoring all the juicy races inbetween them and me - they seem to be completely and utterly obsessed with my civilisation alone. Of course i destroy all their incomming ships and then they promptly loose to the other races.

What can i do to make this scinario work?

I forgot to mention that in several of the games i tried, i didn't even see one dreadlord ship! They were just too weak to make it past the other AI races, and then the game ends without me having fired even one shot!

What difficulty and map size are you playing on? I just fired up that scenario, found the dreadlords and watched them for a while (until they killed my survey ship...). They had no trouble cranking out a navy and invading nearby AI worlds.

I was playing on crippling. I tried medium and large maps.

The large map is the one they didn't even appear. On the medium maps, they go alright for a while - conquor a few AI worlds. Then as my power builds up, this seems to trigger a response from the dreadlords to attack me... so they send all their ships over to me to get blown up and then they get killed by the other AI races.

It could be that i am registering as one of the weaker races, this usually happens in other games come to think of it. The AI dousn't take into account that i have a couple of solid fleets waiting to eat up the dreadlord ships as they move in.

I guess i could always go and conquor a race near the Dreadlords, then not protect the planets. But it would be a sorry state of affairs if it has to come to that?
