Epic Story Generator

Is anyone else waiting in anticipation for this feature?

I think to mark the birth of the ESG, we should have a competition (official or not) to see who can sumbit the most interesting story (modified or not).

I think the introduction of new features would be the perfect time for this, as people will have to learn how to cope with new challenges. This is much better, and makes for more fun reading than a plan which goes perfectly from the start.

This just sounds too confusing. The feature isn't even out yet. Maybe we should wait a while before we jump the gun.

This is a feature I am looking forward too.

However, it is very ambitious, so may not live upto how u imagine it.

I believe Frogboy as already said he regrets making it a feature of Dark Avatar, as it consumes alot of resources.

Lets wait and see.

I would imagine it would, but it's a *great* feature. I've never heard of this in any other game, but I lead a rather sheltered life. Does anyone know whether this has ever been done before?

Possible solution: Make it optional. Those who want it can deal with the performance hit, those who don't, won't have a story generated. And if you really want to take it another step. Make it an optional download for Dark Avatar. So those who REALLY don't want it won't even have it in the game.

But I won't lie, I'm REALLY looking forward to this feature. I will of course be using it only as an outline to create backgrounds for the stories I write or maybe interludes. But as a foundation for a history to a story, this is priceless. Win or lose, you have the ability to give your imaginary world a history that you created. Good stuff... good stuff...

If they can get this to work games like Romance of the Three kingdoms would greatly benefit from copying the feature into their games.

This is one of the features I'm greatly looking forward to as well. I do like reading the AARs people post. I'm not much of a writer so this will be great for us limited talent people.

@Mumblefratz : I have and play a lot of games and haven't seen this feature before. It could exist, just haven't seen it. RCT3 has their photo story thing, but it's nothing like this. It just produces pics of your custom peeps.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this is a feature which would seem to have perfect synergy with Hero characters. Whoever heard of an epic tale without heroes?

I'm not aware of it having been done before either.

The only time I have come across something like this was in a PlayByMail game (yea...before PBEM...like the stone age), called Adventurer Kings. It was only battle reports as well, not the entire game. It was really good.

When I say resource intensive, I think they mean development time, not machine specs, I think.

It would be an interesting feature as other people will be able to submit their stories online for others to enjoy, and if they have the time edit certain parts so it sound better for them. I think that editing wont be necessary(hopefully), since the library for events is quite large.

Empire Earth II kinda did something like the ESG, but once agian it was still only the battle reports at the very end. Still it did add a ton of flavor to the game.

Not exactly, but the very first Civ game had an event log that could have been used to make something. If you checked the Civ directory after a game, there was a text file that contained lines like: 4000BC Rome founded, 3750BC Romans discover Bronze Working, and 3450BC Romans capture Thebes. Stuff like that.

I find the 'epic story generator' more interesting in theory than any of the game mechanic changes they're making. New random events or U.P. laws to vote on might be cool too. Everything else is pretty shrugworthy as far as the expansion goes, if they didn't have the epic story generator I wouldn't consider it a worthy purchase.

Now if only we can get the story generated by the ESG to be read by a female version of Steven Hawkings voice generation equipment that would be perfect.

Now if you're going to go that far then........
