Observations from first beta game

Started a game last night using .70[b] I think and made it through 22 turns while exploring the interface before accidentally killing the game. Here is a short list of things that may need to be looked at.

1) The sliders on the game start don't act intuitively. I started trying to adjust the sliders by clicking on the hovering arrow and dragging it to the right and left. After some experimentation I realized that what I needed to do was just click to the right or left to get the desired results.
2) The opposing candidate moves extremely fast at the start of the turn. I'm not sure if this is a matter of difficulty level (I was at the second easiest level) The result of this is that the opponent gets all the goodie boxes unless the player has really good reflexes... this may not be a factor with more play.
3) When I entered the option menu, I was presented with the options to start a new game, start a fantasy game, or quit. Since I was at turn 22 of the current game, I was expecting to see an option to close the option menu. I choose quit, which locked up the game and never recovered.
4) Is it intentional that the player cannot move the units that they get from the goodie boxes? I'd found a heckler and a jaded consultant. The heckler I moved to Pennsylvania and never saw the jaded consultant... not sure if this was intentional or not, or just specific to the individual units. The AI seemed able to move their helpers from state to state.
5) Campaigning solely on wanting more jobs and my opponent opposes new jobs seems a bit too easy (may have been difficulty level).

On the positive side, the game was relatively intuitive for me. I should qualify that because I am usually able to figure out interfaces quickly and may or may not be typical of the average user.

After the initial figuring out of the interface, the AI seems good enough at low levels to show a new user a decent strategy of jetting around the country setting up campaign headquarters.

Well i reconed the fast moving oponent too.
Some of the goody fellas are movable (they have an image on the left side)

I played two easy games and I feel it easier to win with the Democrats (won with a 300votes gap) and to increase "Influence" with them then the Republicans (dunno if that is only me or what)

If you already have Galciv, you should be able to upgrade to drengin.net for a reduced price.

If not, then you can either pay the full subscription price like the rest of us or wait. With Galciv, prepurchases through the website allowed you to download the beta. I'm not sure if that is the case with the Political Machine or not.

After playing a second game from start to finish there are some more things that seem odd:

1) In starting a new game, it would be really nice to be able to highlight the entire name of the player (i.e. Anonymous) rather than just being able to place the cursor.
2) When getting political operatives in the last game, they didn't always seem to become mine. Not entirely sure why that happened, but it caused me to lose California when all the operatives I hired there became democrats.
3) Pressing the quit button was having some issues for me running with win2k. The game appeared to stop, but not exit. Using alt-tab eventually gave control back to the desktop and I didn't need to kill it with task manager. So not sure whether it is just a delayed quit or what.

Also opponent was moving at random speeds this game... sometimes he moved incredibly quickly at the beginning of the turn, othertimes slower. I was more able to catch up with him and get some of the goodies on the second game once I realized what was happening.

1) Agreed...there are several cursor problems that need to be tackled.
2) That's really odd...We'll be on the lookout for that one.
3) That may have to do with the font problems that made the game crash on most Windows platforms...we'll be fixing that problem shortly, so hopefully that'll fix your bug.

Yes, this is something I am having to get used to. This isn't really a "Turn Based Game" per se. Each turn, both sides are moving at the same time until they run out of Stamina. It was funny because I was watching the Computer player grab all the good stuff while I was sitting there waiting for my "turn"!
