OH Please Mr.Yor reconsider.

(Like the title.)

In the game I'm playing now, the Yor have a mining starbase (economy I think). So I try to get diplomatically.

I first try to bargin with techs, but to no avail. So after I put EVERYTHING I possibly can, surrender, all my $(alot), all my techs, planets, and all my ships and starbases; they refuse to hand it over.

They say "you don't have the warrior instinct" and , if I could say this, you have the DUMBASS instinct.

I am the leading race in EVERYTHING. Diplomacy, the works. Yet they are to stupid to accept it.

Why isn't the AI smart enough?

The AI is programmed to regard some things as so valuable they will not hand it over for anything I think the developers should make the Surrender item give you infinite bargaining power

Well, it's funny, I tried to give the Torians surrender (because I was losing miserably) and they refused and called it a "peace bribe" or something....

trust me, this is a good thing. 1.0x you could almost win without firing a shot by simply jacking up your economy and diplomacy and buying every starbase in the universe. first you buy all the economy ones, then the rest you can buy with the extra income just from those. same with wars, they use to be dirt cheap to buy a war. you could pay a 50k or so and have everyone fighting everyone else, except you. suddenly all the traders from EVERY race are landing on your planet and in no time your megawar pays for itself. boooooring. while i think they overcompensated for the warfare one the starbase one is just fine by me.

A few months ago the AI would sell any starbase for a song. Players complained that it was making the game too easy so they changed the AI to where it is next to impossible to deal for a resource starbase.

Just to see if there was any way to make the deal, I once offered all my planets for an influence mine and the AI refused. FCS, the base would have reverted to them in the next turn. I think they will sell sometimes but it is as rare as the precursor library

Apparently it is hard to tune the AI to a happy medium

No Civ would SELL a StarBase !!!!
It is just plain DUMB. Period.

Any deal you offer the AI for a starbase is either a bad deal for it, or not a serious deal from you. Either way, there's no reason for the AI to accept it.

Or, you engineer a proxy war, giving your proxy a fleet powerful enough to take out the starbase and cause the Yor more problems...
You also make sure you have constructers near the starbase. Or blitzkreig them quickly into a settlement.

I don't know. If I was behind in tech I would sell my starbase for all their tech and a few ships...and then just declare war and take the resource back. But then again, I am devious insane.

@Heroine4Life,
Not a bad plan, but the AI never seems to give that good a deal..

Not necessarily; you could, for instance, offer to trade starbases.

Say you have three Morale resources and no Money, and the AI race has three Money resources and no Morale; there's no reason why the AI wouldn't necessarily be interested in the possibility of engineering a swap, especially if the locations of the bases are problematic.

I would sell a starbase for a sweet deal.

Of course I would then go to war to get it back...
