3 Suggestions to the developers for the next expansion


1/ More story campaigns

2/ Improve battle mechanics, so it's less mechanical. And also make researching/using defences economically more viable.

3/ Economy revamp. This involves de-linking tax revenue from population to some degree. Perhaps multiple tax rates a la Sim City, with appropriate impacts. Trade should be overhauled significantly so that initiators of trade get money, not buyers of goods (balance of payments - basic economics). Buyers actually to pay the money. But buyers get some social benefits, primarily morale. Value of trade to be linked to distance as now, but only perhaps 30% so, the other 70% of valu to be determined by a new factor that you have to R&D i.e. trade goods quality.

1. In the next expansion you play the Drengin (I think) in campaign mode.

2. Being done this month in 1.2 by making defenders and attackers fire at same time, so all attack ships will be blown out of the sky

3. meh, I'd prefer if they reverted to galciv1 random under-the-hood economy mechanics, so you need to develop a feel for the game

4. Allow Huge hulled transports to not become normal cargo ships after setting the routes to planet

Four suggestions to add more character to the races:
1) Have some races have a "bloodlust" flag. Once the flag is on, they will pursue war until one race is eliminated from the game. It might be themselves. Have a 50% chance that this flag is enabled at the start of the game. If so, do not declare war, but act as if war is declared and just attack enemy ships and planets.

2) Have some races with a 50% chance at a "pacifist" flag. Do not build any military ships until enemies have built miltary transports. Even then only build defending type ships. Have the bulk of the balance go into social production.

3) Have some races with a 50% of a "resource" flag. If enabled, build one early constructor for every colony ship. Have them seek out and claim resources.

4) Have some races with a chance (variable depending on race, might be as low as 5% as high as 50%) at a "speedy" flag. If enabled, have them prefer fast ships. At least one engine on every design, and use an average of 40% of ship space to go to engines.

These changes would add a lot of character to the game, make it more unpredictable, more fun. It would open up any number of new strategies to players and every game would be quite different depending on which races have their flags enabled.

elconquest: On 4, are you talking about Transports (for moving around troops and invading) or Freighters (for establishing trade routes)?

Another key thing is to make the races more unique - and I mean really unique. Look at Starcraft for inspiration. Wonderful balance, yet chalk & cheese races.

The Yor should discover how to (perhaps the dread lords teach them) remove their reliance on food (use fusion). They can manufacture population, so they can increase population faster by using factories - but of course that means not building other things whilst they are doing this. The balancing thing would be to reduce their research capability i.e. as machines they have no creativity.

Add a new organic race a la Zerg. Everything boilogical for them.

Add a race of cyborgs a la The Borg. These guys have v poor research but can assimilate techs from captured worlds and ships.

That would make an expansion pack worth paying for
