There won't be any multiplayer in the first expansion pack. There simply wouldn't be enough time to properly playtest or balance it before release.

NT Jedi, first of all I do realize how many multiplayer games are out there. If you had actually read my post instead of looking at ways to pick it apart you would have noticed I said there are not many games that cater to solitary gamers. I also said I can understand why people would want to play with family and friends. As far as finding family and friends to play with, sure you may be able to find people that are willing to play the same game for months, but how many games will you end up playing that way?

Many people have no choice but to play multiplayer with strangers. That is why there are so many multiplayer sites. Cheaters, quiters, and hackers are just as damaging to a game as a poor AI. There are alot of games that have multiplayer that few people play anymore. Yes adding multiplayer will probably increase sales, but it does not mean that the game will last that much longer. I think a good AI and lots of modability will provide the longest playability for this game.

Jedi if all that is on the market is one type of game geared to a specific type of gamer there are going to be alot of those games. There are not alot of 4x games out there, and there are even fewer games out there that have focused on single player enough to make it a challenge. I'm not a slave, I'm all for suggestions that will make the game better and give it a longer life. Almost every game out there right now is a Sim, MoM, or RTS. The market is saturated with the kinds of games you want. There are very few 4x games and even fewer games that have focused on SP. You have an entire group of gamers out there that are being ignored, it's about time a company decided to capture this lost market. If they can put multiplayer into the game without sacrificing thier dedication to singleplayer, fine put it in. If they can put it in without making people that do not want it or use it pay for it even better. But they should not feel obligated to put it in and alienate a whole group of people they have been oriented toward, for the sake of more profit and the desires of people that already have a wide selection of games they prefer.

Hey Jedi, how about you read Brad's thread on multiplayer, and what he says about it? See if you can pick him apart.

Basically, not one person who I've introduced to the game is intrested in MP. In fact, when two of them found out that money might be spent on MP as opposed to making the game better, they decided not to buy it. Good AI and features increase replayability, not the chance to play some prat who will log at the first sign of defeat. I would list all the ways you are wrong, but to be honest you wouldn't listen, and I'm far too lazy to do that list.

It's the total time into the game which counts for fun... and what better way for playing a game as TBS multiplayer where a player could do his turn while another player does errands or other tasks nearby. LAN TBS is great too because if an emergency appears or if the phone rings it's not a problem to walk away for 20 mins or 2 hours. Currently I play many games this way... my favorites include AOW:SM, Civilization_4 and Dominions_3... all of these TBS games on the XL maps take a long time to finish and are definitely worth it !

Yes it does mean the game will last longer because the increased replay value would keep most gamers playing the game longer. Have you seen the current MODS for GAL_CIV_2 ??? Your SP_ONLY community only has one MAJOR MOD under construction the "Star Wars" mod... even the bablyon5 mod is minor because it only wants to add just different techs. The MP community are the ones which usually develop the mods because they work as a team with other MP gamers... SP_only gamers are less likely to work with others since they currently don't play with others.

If they can put multiplayer into the game without sacrificing thier dedication to singleplayer, fine put it in.

The improved AI opponents will arrive via patches not expansions... expansions add new content or features.... such as multiplayer.

Heard of opinions? They're things that mean you can't act like a stuck up shit because some people actually disagree with you. Hey, in another era, you would have made a good corpse!

Well, actually you're spouting crap here. Total conversion mods take time, and the game needs to take off. By next year, there will be a hell of a lot of mods. You're forgetting also modding isn't implemented yet.

Hey NTJedi, how about you read Brad's thread on multiplayer, and what he says about it?

I've already posted at least twice on both major topics within the Stardock forum.

There won't be any multiplayer in the first expansion pack. There simply wouldn't be enough time to properly playtest or balance it before release.

Currently there is a percentage of gamers which play SP_ONLY.... and a percentage of gamers which play MP_ONLY and a percentage of gamers which play both SP / MP games. Adding multiplayer as a feature will make both the MP_ONLY gamers and the SP / MP gamers happy. The increased community would also benefit the SP_ONLY gamers... these gamers could also increase the difficultly level and play two nations at the same time if multiplayer was added. Thanks for the update.

NT Jedi, this is really pointless. The game has only been out a few months, and modding is not fully integrated yet. There is alot of talk about creating mods, and people are even forming groups to work on mods. Your assumption that people that play single player will not get together in groups is erroneous. In just the short time this game has been out there are already groups forming. There are alot of multiplayer games that are no longer played and multiplayer itself is directly responsible for the loss of interest. You've said it yourself you have plenty of games that have what you want. So play them and be happy.

And by the way AI improvements may not come with expansions, but there are alot of features that could be added to make the experience better that MP could keep from being added.

Such as the diplomacy to make real threats to the AI, an ability to create sanctions and embargos, more UP stuff, something everyone could join. Not just a minority who want to prove themselves teh l33t. And an even smaller, unlucky, minority who actually want to play and enjoy muliplayer.

I did not say that... I said " less likely " which is true because SP gamers choose not to play with other gamers over the internet and thus " less likely " to work with other gamers over the internet. HECK... who would work over the internet with other gamers over a period of time and after a long project not want to play a game together !! MP gamers are more likely to work together since they play together it's only logical.

I could easily say the same thing about singleplayer for games ! Multiplayer is just one feature within a game... it takes many features to make any game good.

I will play them and be happy, but I will pursue new games as well. I would be very pleased to play this game with 2 allied humans against multiple allied AI opponents... and based on Stardocks response this is still a possible future.

Yes. Still possible, but only if for expansion pack 2 it beats every other expansion idea. I personally, and a few people who by then I will have dragged online, will do our best to make sure we get something which will be good, as opposed to MP which will end up as half the cost of the game for about a twentieth of the fun, at most.

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH JEDI ON MM PLAY. I PURCHASED THIS GAME RECENTLY, THINKING THIS WAS A MM GAME. I LOVE THE SP GAMEPLAY, BUT MY BROTHER AND FRIEND JUST BOUGHT THIS GAME TOO, TO ONLY PLAY MM. I WAS STUPID TO NOT LOOK INTO THIS METAVERSE FURTHER. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THEY DO NOT HAVE MM IN THIS GAME. EVERYTHING THAT JEDI SAID ABOUT THE BONUS OF MM PLAY IN THIS GAME IS EXACTELY WHAT I BELIEVE. MY FRIEND BOUGHT THIS GAME ONLY FOR MM PLAY AND IT DOESN'T SUPPORT IT...LOL. I WISH MY FRIENDS AND I COULD POST OUR VOTES FOR MM PLAY. I REALLY REALLY HOPE THEY MAKE MM PLAY IN THE FUTURE.

I think they might make PBEM, but it probably depends on their response... meaning if it's politely asked they may feel more inclined to include it in a future expansion...

PS. please don't use All Caps

Yes... Hotseat and PBEM would be the easiest to add into the game... especially since a funky workaround hotseat already exists. Stardock could release the HOTSEAT & PBEM as a $9.99 expansion download which would make many gamers happy as well.

Yuk0n, nowhere on the box or Stardocks website or any game reviews has it been said this game is multiplayer. had you done any reading at all before making a purchase you would have known this was only single player. Anytime you buy a game or other software you should carefully read all the features, specs, and system requirements before buying. THen you will save yourself alot of time and money, as well as having the additional bonus of not being stuck with something you either don't want or can't use. An educated consumer is a smart consumer.

Onikazi... he already admitted his mistake within his post.

He was merely dropping his opinion of how he and his friends would love multiplayer for the game.
