NT Jedi, first of all I do realize how many multiplayer games are out there. If you had actually read my post instead of looking at ways to pick it apart you would have noticed I said there are not many games that cater to solitary gamers. I also said I can understand why people would want to play with family and friends. As far as finding family and friends to play with, sure you may be able to find people that are willing to play the same game for months, but how many games will you end up playing that way?
Many people have no choice but to play multiplayer with strangers. That is why there are so many multiplayer sites. Cheaters, quiters, and hackers are just as damaging to a game as a poor AI. There are alot of games that have multiplayer that few people play anymore. Yes adding multiplayer will probably increase sales, but it does not mean that the game will last that much longer. I think a good AI and lots of modability will provide the longest playability for this game.
Jedi if all that is on the market is one type of game geared to a specific type of gamer there are going to be alot of those games. There are not alot of 4x games out there, and there are even fewer games out there that have focused on single player enough to make it a challenge. I'm not a slave, I'm all for suggestions that will make the game better and give it a longer life. Almost every game out there right now is a Sim, MoM, or RTS. The market is saturated with the kinds of games you want. There are very few 4x games and even fewer games that have focused on SP. You have an entire group of gamers out there that are being ignored, it's about time a company decided to capture this lost market. If they can put multiplayer into the game without sacrificing thier dedication to singleplayer, fine put it in. If they can put it in without making people that do not want it or use it pay for it even better. But they should not feel obligated to put it in and alienate a whole group of people they have been oriented toward, for the sake of more profit and the desires of people that already have a wide selection of games they prefer.
