Influence Conclusions.

Thanks all for the help.

I just did an experiment. I noted my influence produced at my homeworld by moving the pointer over the influence score at planet view. I contructed 2 constuctors and built an influence starbase with an influence module added. I ended turn. Went back to planet view to note score again. Nothing changed.

So... Influence starbases due not boost planet influence. They either boost a "squares" influence or produce their own influence or both.

Thus,in general, they are best used by building them to have opponents planets in the area of effect; as stated by some other people.

If there is more to it than this, such as the "They either boost a "squares" influence or produce their own influence or both." part please explain.

I think that they produce their own influence, as a 'square' can't produce it's own influence. I am not quite sure what you mean by a square so please clarify. Do you mean a parsec?

Yes. A parsec. The squares that bases are built in and ships move in. Each square apparently has an influence score bases on planets and starbases; from what others have said.

As I stated in another thread on this same topic it produces its own area of influence. This is for certain.

If you don't believe me then build one in an opponents area on influence far away from any of your planets and then max it out to the +100% module. You will see it carve out a circular patch of influence in your color out of the opponents.

Think of it this way. It's like a planet you can build next to an enemys world so you can flip them to your side when you don't have any of you own planets nearby or you need more influence to flip them than just 1 planet.

OK ROBO. I accept what you say. So the answer to my question is "both". Influence Starbases boost a parsec squares influence and produce their own influence.
They do not, however boost a planets influence; as my experiment showed me.

Thanks!

Well these influence bases "Amplify" influence in its Area of Effect. I know what you've been asking but I don't have any hard proof or clarifications from Devs to back it up.

What I can tell you is if you truly want to focus on taking certain planets rather than getting 75% of the galaxy your color, build the bases with the planets in the range of its effect area.

And if you are going for influence victory, build influence bases as well as mine the influence resources to make it easier.
I too had wondered the exact same question you pose, and came to the conclusions its not important where the bases are built so long as you build them (with exceptions being if you want certain planet sooner rather than later ). Once you get your influence going, you'll be oozing it everywhere.

ROBO is right,

I did it, I built an influence starbase at long range of my own border and it created a new area of influence of my civilization, and I had no planet near there !!

I still think you have to select special position to build your influence base, since it has an area of effet, it's useless to build it in the center of your empire.

You better build it a long range, near ennemy border.

Twice I've built an influence base and installed every module trying to flip a planet. The first time was a lost cause, because they just went and built a reeducation camp. But both times, my influence all over the galaxy went crazy and planets starting flipping over to me like dominoes. I don't think it does really matter where you put it, as long as you install a bunch of modules.

I'm guessing the influence base amplifies the influence due to the planet in it's radius rather then amplify the influence created at the planet.

Influence Star base has two effects.
1) Increases Influence within it's range.
2) Increases your overall Civ Influence rating, this is what in part determines the base Influence rating with in each square, ie how far away it is from an influence source, the strength of that source and factored for the overall strength of that Civs influence .
