Women attract men (duh!)

I read an article (cannot find the URL) which said that MMOG games in Asia, which are hugely popular, were aiming at attracting young women and then then the men followed. There's a big social phenomenon there (with lots of Chinese caracters 
).
These games don't work the same way as say WoW and have a big social thing to it (kind of social gathering place like a pub?). Anyone can enter and play for free, but then it costs say 1 dollar to get some cool looking garment for your caracter. Apparently people end up paying well, many going over what a subscription would cost. It's a big thing in China, obvious in any Internet cafe (I don't know as much elsewhere, as I'm in China now).
Could Society be partly oriented like that, with esthetic add-ons or else? I know I played a web-based game a bit where I found more women than usual. I asked why: "Well, meeting people, friends etc." Yet the gaming part was there as well.
