Noob Invasion Question

Ok, this is going to sound pretty dumb, but I can't get more than one transport at a time to invade a planet. I've got 4 transports stacked adjacent to a planet, and all have movement. I can't seem to form a fleet with them (haven't done that before either), if I hit the create fleet button, it seems to create an empty fleet, but won't put any transports in it (it looks to me that w/ 12 logistics ability I ought to be able to put 2 of my transports together in a fleet.

Anyhow, if I select all 4 transports as a stacked group, and right click on the planet, the invasion dialog comes up 4 times, each time showing my troop strength as 1000 (I have 2 troop modules on ea. transport). So far, I've just cancelled out, cause I'd like to get this right on the first try - but is it truly meant to be that you can only attack with one transport at a time???

With all 4 in the same grid click one and it will bring up a box containing images of your ships. Click on 2 of your transports (assuming you have the logistics for two) and they will become highlighted. Then create fleet with only these two highlighted. Et voilá

I swear to God, I've done exactly that about a thousand times, only no fleet is getting formed.

If you spend long enough reading the forums you will notice that there are many people that have a similar problem as yourself, in regards to creating a fleet. Whilst the type and number of ships might be different to a transport the issue remains the same, providing that you are doing it correctly of course - which you do seem to be. Then again ther might be an issue with no more than one troop ship at any one time invading a planet, as you mentioned.

I have had problems creating fleets within my logistics skills with certain ship combinations and yet others have been perfectly fine. I am edging towards thinking that it might be a particular problematic ship that causes issues with any other ship(s) when it is used to try and form a fleet.

For your specific problem of attacking a planet with more than a 1000 troops what I have done is to create a 'Super Trooper' ship. It has a large hull cargo body with two troop carrier modules along with a warp drive engine. Zero weapons or sensors and so it is fast and will allow an invasion with 2000 troops at any one time, I could have fitted more troop modules on if I had wanted (IIRC). Be careful to make sure you don't deplete your population too much when using them though.

So, you're saying that there's a bug out there that sometimes prevents ships from combining into a fleet, even though they should be able to, w/in logistics ability limits?
