Creating Ships outside of sandbox

I really thing that we should have the ability to create a ship when we aren't in a game. Would it be too difficult to add an additional mode in the main menu to this purpose?

Patience, my friend, is a virtue.
Since the Ship Designs are stored externally and not associated to a single Civilization/Game (which I would prefer, by the way), I think this would make sense - though I don't quite see the purpose of building a Uber-ship using the most advanced technology which you won't get in-game anyways.

I was going to make this suggestion as well - since it can take hours to design a good ship, I believe that one should have the ability reuse good design in future games. If you don't have the tech for the design just yet, then that particular design should remain grayed out until you have the tech to build it.

I'd love it if there was a stripped-down version of the ship designer available directly on the main menu, or outside the game. Just make it so it only provides hulls and jewelry so you can easily make templates anytime you want, for in-game or even for screenshotting and using in other things.
