When will Multiplayer arrive ??

This game looks great... but I really need multiplayer LAN and/or Hoseat before I purchase the game.
I was reading that multiplayer will be coming... I was just wondering when it will arrive?

No hurry... just curious.

THANKS !

In opposition to the previous post, one would hope eventually. I don't believe that they've said whether or not they will FOR CERTAIN include multiplayer but I believe the Frogster (Frogboy) said that the capabilities are built into the game if they need to one day add multiplayer to GC2.

I bought the game and harassed everyone I know to pick up a copy though my own younger brother (a fairly large gamer) is being a tard and blowing me off about the game...but it's cool, I know where he lives.

LOL

I'd strongly recommend that you pick it up now and enjoy it a little bit while waiting for the multiplayer, that may, honestly, never show up...though I hope it does too.

Given the increased sales, I think MP is more likely- due to the wider base= enough people to support MP. I think I remember SD saying it was a demand issue- more sales= more potential demanders of MP.

I doubt I'd play MP, but it would be good to have in the game. MP will probably open up a lot of exploits though.

Marioflag is most likely wrong and he would know that if he read the FAQ on this website.

In regards to multiplayer they say:

So what we’ll probably do is have an expansion pack that adds multiplayer. The people who want multiplayer can thus buy that feature and those that don’t aren’t forced to have to pay for it.

Actually gamers should encourage multiplayer functionality because this means more copies will be sold which increases the community and the chances of sequels. I know myself and many in my family I will be able to convince on buying the game once multiplayer is available.

I'm wondering when this expansion feature will arrive... now this expansion may arrive within 1 month or 24 months. Either way is fine as long as it's stable..... I'm just wondering if we could have an estimated timeframe of when Multiplayer will arrive. As soon as multiplayer arrives I'll definitely be buying the game.

Never would be fine with me.

There are plenty of multiplayer games - the gaming world needs more games focused on quality single player gaming like this one.

For me, even if I was into multiplayer, I think it would be pure torture to play a TBS in MP mode. It can take hours to finish a single player game, it would take a ridiculous amount of time to finish MP.

Hotseat is already unofficially in the game, and the devs may make it more accessible at some point. I wouldn't expect to see LAN play any time soon, however.

You can play a quasi-Hot seat game with someone by loading up the game as GalCiv2 cheat (use the cheat parameter). Then when you set up the game, you let the AI play out a few turns and then have your friend pick one of the races they want to control. Have them select that unit and hit CTRL-SHIFT-Z.

Hotseat:

1. start game with cheats enabled
2. when game started, un first turn use CTRL + T , to teleport your scout to the homeworld of the player that you want to be Player2 ( which you can see by looking at the influence areas )
3. klick on that race ship, press CTRL + SHIFT + Z . And, blam, you got yourself Hotseat on turn one.
4. use CTRL + T , to teleport your scout back to your homeworld
5. try not to use cheats any more...

A full fledged hotseat or network hotseat would be sweet. Some of you guys should really stop tearing down ideas that you don't like.

If you wouldn't play mp, fine. If you don't like tactical combat, great. Some people do, and every time a thread comes up about one of those topics it's fills up with negative responses like NEVER.

Yes I agree Lorder the game should have at least hot-seat and LAN

I do both singleplayer and multiplayer when playing games... but if I could only do one it would be multiplayer.
Experienced gamers will always be able to provide better strategy and interact much better than the AI.... at least in this century. I've done many TBS games which have taken months to finish and it's all worth it in my book.... whether it's singleplayer or multiplayer. No fun for me on rushing to finish games.

Multiplayer will mean increased sales for the game which will increase chances of sequels or expansions.

I like hot seat but would prefer LAN so both can see combat unfold that they are involved in. I remember a dev post about the fact they had time and money to either do multiplayer or the ship creator. Polls were taken and people prefered the ship creator. I totally agree with the decision. I have a couple of friends who would play multiplayer but the time I would play single player WAY out does it.

Ship creator rocks! (I just stink at using it )

Yeah, if it's between the ship designer and mp, I'll take the ship designer every time.

I hope there's a multi-player expansion introduced somewhere down the line, because like NTJedi said it would probably increase sales of the standard game.

Though as for myself I can't imagine ever wanting paying money for the "privilege" of having some obnoxious kid hurl poorly-spelled insults at me. (The AI-controlled races are much better conversationalists than the average online player, and much more polite, even when they're threatening to eat you skin. ) If a multiplayer expansion comes out, all well and good, but I'd probably give it a miss and just wait for a nice new SP campaign.

Men i'm not against the multiplayer but as the developers said introducing multiplayer is a feature which needs a lot of time to be implemented and so there could be less time to introduce new features. So if i should choose between an expansion with a more refined diplomacy, intelligence, more ship components, more planetary invasions options and multiplayer my choice would be surely the first and i hope developers take this choice. This is my opinion

Yeah, there's that, but I'm hoping since "quasi-hotseat" is basically already there that development time on that type of mp would be signifigantly shorter. Like you say, if it's a choice between a metric shit-ton of single player content and multiplayer, I'd have to go with the single player content. I'd like multiplayer, but not to the point of missing out on more great single player content.

I didn't have internet when GalCiv I came out, and even though I'm at a high-speed connection at college now, I think the last thing GCII needs is a multiplayer feature.

When a single-player experience is honed so well, there is no need to introduce all the headaches of multiplayer and such.

I would much rather see Brad's new versions of espionage, and new features of that nature, things that keep the game going for two or three years instead of two or three months.

I have to restrain myself from playing this game most of the time, seeing as I have homework and "real" responsibilities. That is the sign of a great game.

An expansion with multiplayer will sell to more gamers than an expansion without multiplayer. The future of your new favorite game means getting the developers to sell as many games as possible.... which means multiplayer since lots of gamers don't even do singleplayer games.

I'm sure many of you hard-core singleplayer fans won't use the multiplayer option but the game should move in the direction of what will bring in the most money for the game. More money means more sequels or expansions.
Also the multiplayer function is a one-time feature to add for selling the game to the multiplayer gamers.

Consider also that i can be the best fanboy of stardock but this doesn't imply that i will surely buy a crap expansion.Stardock has been up to now one of the best and customer friendly developers but if the expansion pack is limited to add just a mp option and add two new races without any new feature or improvement in gameplay probably i will spend my 40 euros in a different way and i think that the greater part of players would like more a new campaign or other feature which allow this game to become the definitive gaming experience.
About MP option i think also that this game would have a worst MP experience than Civ4 because the latter was projected to be also MP while it isn't.

Thinking it so, does not make it so.

I will not buy a multiplayer expansion.Give me a more advanced spying system, better exploration, ect anyday.Just how many people play 4X games online? bugger all.

so all you advocating MultiPlayer are marketing experts and demographic analysts i take it?

The majority of the fan base who was here long before since GC1 made teh decision that game content was more important than multiplayer and if we had the choice again I know I would pick game content over multtplayer everytime. This topic ahs been brought up before i ahve to ask why you are wasting board space and minutes of my life reading this post when there are already other threads to discuss this on.

If it gets brought in it will get brought in bringing it up every week is annoying as hell it's not like you were the first genius on this planet to think of multiplayer. Maybe posting in the other threads would be more useful for your time.

I'm sure Stardock has enough wisdom to make the expansion tasty for everyone... the community hasn't been disappointed yet with their work.

Some features I recommend to include in the next expansion:
1) Multiplayer
2) New Races
3) Game Editor -- create galaxies for others to play
4) New Campaign ((maybe even a campaign editor))
5) New Technologies

This captures not only existing gamers to buying the sequel but also nets more income from the multiplayer community. And since steps already exist for getting hotseat to work for games... it shouldn't be difficult for setting up an easy hotseat and LAN multiplayer.

I would buy a multiplayer expansion. You can have the hardest AI in the world to challenge players, but it just doesn't compare to the fun of going against a thinking opponent. An AI can throw a few curves your way, but there is a huge difference that sets a human apart from an AI: the human opponent feels fear, shock, betrayal, and wonder.

The AI doesn't fear the wave of your ships approaching its homeworld. They aren't shocked to find out you're spying on them. The AI doesn't feel betrayed when it discovers you have been using it as a pawn in a war you had no intention of entering and were just trying to weaken the AI's military before you attack them. And the AI doesn't wonder what secrets you are keeping from it.
