New Human Battleship Hull Template (Pics)

As promised, now that I have access to all of the hulls, I am working up a Navy for the humans. This is a Human Large Hull, and I've been playing with placing hardpoints inside structures to give it that lean, mean look. The the first of hopefully many templates that are dependant only on the hull rather than its equipment to show up in the ship building list. I won't deny that much of my tastes for starships is influenced a bit by Babylon 5, and Wing Commander, just to a degree. In future designs, I will try to work a bit of the new BSG into the look -- if it fits.

This is the front of the base Battleship template. It's got a lot of hardpoints here for all kinds of nasty weapons.

This is the side. It's got a utilitarian feel to it. Slightly naval, but definitely adapted to space.

The back of the ship shows the massive engines necessary to push this thing. You'll notice it also flares out a little here.

And finally a long shot from the bottom up. Human hulls can definitely be long and THIN if done right.

Nice. Seems like that ship pushes a few polys. I've noticed when you have too many of those ships running around (on my system atleast everything slows down to a crawl from the galactic view. I end up playing most of my games from a strategic view perspective.

Try dropping your antialiasing settings or resolution down a little

Well done mate

I'm actually working on making a battlestar based off the human huge hull. I also already have done a cylon raider and have seen vipers made, so the Battlestar galactica fans are already at work haha.

Rock on! Nice work guys!

You can only do so much tweaking. Once you get a bunch of ships in a small area it slows down. Thats the price of having an older system. I generally stay away from throwing too much glitz on my ships in order to keep things running smoothly.

Looks great, my firt impression about it was "Tigerclaw" from Wingcommander, yeah, can you tell me how to make this hulls, i' looking forward to buy this game when it comes out in Germany, it would be nice if you could send me something like this, i'm looking forward to design, too. maybe we can share...

Just buy it electronically from this site.
you won't regret it. we loose the cd/box anyway.

And that way, stardock makes more money off the game which i believe they deserve...

Is there a place where we can upload/download custom designed ships and hulls? I would be interested in downloading some of the BSG models mentioned in one of the earlier posts. Just curious. I'd love to see one section under downloads where fans can upload custom races, ships, flags, skins, etc.

Thanks guys for the encouragement, guys!

IRT Boogie: I'm making these at the rate of one to three a night, depending on the size of the vessel and the look I'm going for. Once I've got enough designs built, if anyone wants them, I'll post them through the metaverse.

IRT Terraner: I understand you don't have the game yet, so here goes. Hulls and accessories have hardpoints attached to them in various locations. These hardpoints are spots where you can place additional pieces. Included in the ship design function is a way to reorient hardpoints in the direction you need them to be. The battleship hull displayed above was made possible through the use of flipped hardpoints and hardpoints mounted inside the base large hull. This design helped me discover my new favorite accessory.

Wow. Amazing work.

I'm usually torn between spending what time I have available to play the game or design ships.

I would probably kill someone for some Battlestar Galactica designs. Vipers, Galatica, Pegasus, Raiders........you guys do awesome work.

IRT Doronron 2 thx i think i've understand that, may you could tell me how do you changed that (maybe which program do you have used or...) i've seen examples of selfmade ships and i wanted to know if i need an extern program to do that kind of work or is it easier? i've heard something about 3dsmax but i didn't have something like this, maybe you can give some advice or a little hint, that i can prepare for that (modding).
i want to design ships and hulls too , which i can send you when i'm finish

P.s. I get the game on 17 march... ( I don't trust in downloading it)

i'm really excited!

ok, thx, wait for reply

Hello Terraner: This model was built entirely inside the game's ship designer. It uses the stock large human hull and a mix of jewelry from the standard game and collector's edition sets. No additional software is required, and no modding was done to the game's code. All of the ships I've created can be built by anyone.

Hi Doronron 2 thanks a lot, now i have a more detailed picture of this game in my mind !
I didn't believe that the graphic is so good but wow, It's great! I missed this feature in Galciv1, i've only added ships by changing and adding the shippak*.ship files so I had some new (better ships) ... I trust in that galciv2 is also moddable...and this is something I will love in this game

thx for info, I'm organizing 3ds max 7 which you can use to create absolutly individual ships and more (i've heard it's compatible with this game) when i get it I can send it you in a way. this will be the next step !

If you're interested we can hold contact by e-mail so sharing files will be easier, my e-mail is my.paradise@gmx.de
you can response there if you want. thx

Hey,

Blender will also edit .x files and it's completely free. You might want to take a look at it.

I'm looking forward to design ships in a Startrek-look with Warp-nacelles (like the Nova in Galciv2).
I have made an old model in 3D Game studio 4 looks ok, i try this in blender this weekend, Question: Do you have tried it out yourself for making ships?

I'll send you some examples soon , you may give me your e-mail adress when you want

thx,
